CHAPTER 20 - Someone to Watch Over Me

When Taylor made her way down the stairs and to the kitchen she was surprised to see Caleb already there and making breakfast. From the looks of it he was making two portions. She liked the fact that Caleb didn't need to sneak around anymore. They could openly walk around the house and hang out without being afraid of being caught by her mother.

Taylor stood next to Caleb and gave him a quick kiss, thanking him for the breakfast that he had made for the both of them. He asked her what was going on as he had heard her and Hanna leave suddenly last night. "The police were at Spencer's house last night. They have a search warrant now as well." When Caleb asked what they were looking for Taylor awkwardly looked away. How could see tell her boyfriend/not boyfriend, she really needed to figure out what they were now, that her best friend is under suspicion for murdering her other best friend.

Her mother came down and told Caleb that the bathroom was free for him to use. Excusing himself, Taylor grabbed his breakfast and packed it into a bag and decided to put it into his rucksack to eat on the way so that they aren't late. Opening his bag, Taylor noticed something wrapped in tissue paper. She tried to respect his privacy but she just couldn't help herself. Opening the paper, Taylor couldn't help but smile when she saw the owl covered in jewels in the paper. It reminded her of the previous night when they spent it together camping and how they had heard owls in the distance.

Wrapping it back up and putting in his bag, Taylor quickly stuffed his lunch inside before sitting down to eat her own. When Caleb came back downstairs, Taylor didn't mention the owl as she didn't know whether it was for her, but she hoped it was, she didn't want Caleb going around and buying other girls gifts.

Taylor was currently sat down in the cafeteria with her friends. She didn't mention anything about the owl as she knew that they would question the symbolism of it and she didn't want to tell them what occurred that night. It was an intimate moment between them and she hoped that Caleb hasn't told anybody about it either.

What caught their attention was seeing Paige and Sean together. Those two have never even spoken before and all of a sudden they seem like best friends? Taylor noticed the look on Emily's face, and it seems that Hanna did too. Thinking that Emily was worried about how Hanna was going to take it, said girl reassured her that she was fine with seeing him with someone else.

Suddenly, Spencer showed up and sat down at the table. Taylor looked at her confused, she didn't think that her friend was coming in today. Especially, since there would be rumours all around the school. All the girls immediately asked if Spencer was okay. If Taylor was in Spencer's position she knew that she would never even consider coming into school knowing all of the stares she would be getting.

"I had to be someplace other than my house." Taylor could see where the girl was coming from however, she would never avoid her house by going school. That's like trading one hell for another.

"Did they actually take things from your house?" Aria questioned curiously.

Spencer shook her head. "Not so much. My mom says they did it just to shake me up." What a way to make someone on edge Taylor thought. "They took things from my jewellery box, stuff from my closet, a couple pairs of shoes..."

"Wait. Not the Tory Burches." Hanna stated seriously causing Taylor to nudge her sister in the side.

Spencer let out a small laugh, thankfully. "No, trainers. They wanted my laptop but my mom said no, it wasn't in the search warrant and they couldn't have it." It was silent for a moment before Spencer looked at all the girls with a serious look on her face. "Look, you guys should know that there's a chance that they might try to pull this on you." She apologised but Taylor wouldn't let her. It wasn't Spencer's fault that any of this was happening to her and them. It was A's fault. A set them all up, but especially Spencer.
