Katie’s POV
The smell of delicious pancakes reached through my clouded senses and pulled me out of a dreamless sleep. Groaning I lifted my head and found myself scattered over the couch. I didn’t have a headache but from sleeping on the couch in a weird way my neck and back muscles hurt. It wasn’t something too bad. After a hot shower I would be fine but it still hurt like hell.
“Good morning, sunshine.” Jimmy called from the kitchen pouring himself some orange juice.
“Morning, my dear brother.” Smiling I yawned and stretched my arms over my head.
“Wow. I never expected my little sister to be so … well in a good mood after last night.” He chuckled and put some plates onto the counter to pile his pancakes and toast and other breakfast stuff on them.
“Never had a problem with alcohol. You know, a girl should know how to hold her liquor.” I ran my hands over my face and moved to get up. But suddenly I heard some groaning from … from my stomach? Confused I looked down and found Jason cuddled to my middle. His right eye was swollen and purple and he was just drooling all over me.
“Oh god, Jason! What happened to you?” I didn’t care if he was still sleeping. I lifted his head so I could have a better look and flinched as I saw that his nose was swollen as well. “Jimbo, we have to get him to the hospital!” I was wide awake now. Jimmy came over to the couch with a glass of orange juice and handed it to me.
“Nah, that’s not necessary. It’s too late for that and besides. It’s not the first time he gets his face tenderized.” He chuckled and patted Jason’s shoulder a little too hard for my liking but it apparently woke him up a bit more.
“Hey quit it!” I shoved his hand away. Jimmy just laughed and made his way to the stairs.
“I’ll go and wake Ruby. Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do.” I just flipped him off although he couldn’t see it. Jason slowly sat up and held his pounding head. As his healthy eye spotted me next to him he flashed a crook smile.
“Morning, beautiful.” I laughed.
“Oh Jason, I’m so sorry for what happened.” He leaned back into the couch and closed his eyes again.
“I can’t even remember what happened to be honest.”
Jimmy came back down the stairs. “Ruby will be down in a minute. Breakfast is ready by the way.” Jason and I looked at each other and then raced towards the kitchen. Of course I won because he was way to hangover and handicapped in addition.
“Not fair! You should have let me win!” He whined.
“Pft. Quit it, loser. It’s your fault that you got a black eye last night. So no pity for you, Mr Berry.” I brandished my fork and then continued to stuff my face with those yummy pancakes my brother made. Jason and I were buggering around when Ruby entered the kitchen all freshened up and ready to start the day.
“Wow sis, you looking good.” I smiled at her and she sent me a beaming smile back herself.
“I slept fantastically.”
“Glad to hear that.” Jimmy winked at her and she blushed heavily and looked down to her plate. Now that’s interesting. My brother and my best friend? Already? Not that I wouldn’t approve, it’s quite the opposite. They both would make a great couple. But they only knew each other almost 24 hours and Ruby never was the one to rush things with a guy.
