Chapter 13 - Ripples

I awoke in a considerable amount of pain, my whole body felt like a burning building, with flames leaping from every window and bellowing from the roof. I sat up and ran my hands through my hair; I took a few deep breaths and then reached over slowly to get my boot, and secured my leg into it. Once I'd stood up I looked around, morphine would definitely be welcomed right now. I couldn't find anything however and was contemplating on waking Tayte up or going across the way to wake Angelo, but then wisely thought against it.

I quietly made my way to the door and made one last glance at Tayte and Arii sleeping peacefully before leaving. I headed outside through the kitchen and out to the area near the pool. It was still warm, I hadn't even checked to see what the time was, but it was still dark. I headed over to the pool and sat down next to it, stretching my booted leg in front of me and hugging my bent good knee. I rested my forehead against my knee and shut my eyes, willing the pain to go away,

"Fear is a state of mind and the pain is telling you to keep going" I told myself over and over again. My body was burning, the pain coursing to every point. The water looked so inviting and I was so hot. I pulled off my boot, followed by my t-shirt and slid in. I didn't actually think how deep the pool was going to be, considering I couldn't actually kick, the whole thing was a heat of the moment decision. The coolness hit hard, washing over my body, the pain still seared like hot pokers piercing through skin. I took a breath and sank to the bottom, I was just coming back up to the surface when two hands grabbed me and hauled me up, catching me by surprise. I was hauled out of the pool and led on my back spluttering up water and trying to catch my breath,

"You twat, what the fuck Keane!" Tayte snapped,

"What?" I coughed,

"Did you, or did you not just try and kill yourself?"

"No, of course I didn't" I coughed again, "I was so hot. I am still so hot, I feel like I'm burning. I...I just went in the pool to try and cool off, to try and ease the pain" Tayte stood there and ran a hand through his hair, he took a deep breath,

"Shit Keane. I'm so sorry, I thought...you just weren't in the bed when I woke up and...I came out here and saw your boot and top on the side and you...I just. Shit" he sat down next to me,

"Tayte, I would never do that to any of you and you should know that" I said gently sitting up, "I'd never do that no matter what was happening"

"I know and I'm sorry. I just jumped to conclusions"

"Can we not mention this in the morning" I said,

"Mention what?" Tayte said, I smiled and he got up and then helped me, I gritted my teeth,

"Fuck. Honestly, I feel like I'm going to go up in flames at any moment"

"Let's get back inside, I'll give you some morphine" I nodded and he wrapped an arm around me, picking up my boot and t-shirt and then supporting me back into the house and to our room. Arii was still flat out,

"It's only 3am" I said shocked looking at the time,

"Yes, it's only 3am"

"Urgh" I groaned, as I pulled of my wet shorts, and pulled on a dry pair,
