New Character: Usami

IMPORTANT AUTHOR'S NOTE! I made the reader a teacher here again and will a couple more times with upcoming characters since they're adults. I do this because I want this book to be as accessible as possible to readers (which is part of the reason why I made the reader gender neutral), and I know not everyone is comfortable with student-teacher pairings. With that being said, everyone is welcome to have their own likes and dislikes when it comes to fiction, so please don't start a war in the comments again over shipping discourse (yes, it has happened before).

Also, I'll be referring to this character mostly as Usami because I honestly prefer this name to Monomi and don't want to go back and forth between the two. The only person who will call her Monomi will be Monokuma.

Side note, I found Usami hard to write at times, but it's good practice for me as a writer, so I don't mind too much.

How You Met/Got To Know Her

The introduction of a mascot was something you weren't expecting the administrators of Hope's Peak to announce, but when they rolled out a robot that had the same sentience as any other person and could switch between a humanoid and bear form, appropriately dubbed Monokuma, you found yourself accepting the change quickly. The academy already has a robot student in attendance, why would a robot mascot be any more weird? Besides, it was pretty on brand for an extraordinary school like Hope's Peak to commission its students to make a mascot as exceptional as them.

Some time after Monokuma's integration, a petition was passed around between your fellow teachers. You didn't know what it was about at first, but when the petition finally reached your hands, you learned that it was a plea to the school administrators to create a new mascot, this time for the instructors.

Most of the other teachers had signed it, and even though you didn't feel strongly one way or the other, you decided to lend your signature as well. Miaya, the original composer of the petition, seemed pleased by your support, and by the following week, you started hearing rumors that the administrators had agreed to Miaya's proposal.

It took another month for the new mascot to be revealed.

Like Monokuma, this one was built by Kazuichi and Miu, but the design was made by Chihiro and Chiaki under Miaya's supervision, who was due to get an AI assistant version of this mascot that would lend its aid during her day-to-day activities at work. You were interested in seeing how this mascot would contrast with Monokuma, who had been designed by the much more.... Eccentric Junko, and thankfully, you were pleasantly surprised by what you saw at the unveiling.

Also like her predecessor, this new mascot, named "Usami", had two forms: one animal and one human. Unlike Monokuma, her animal form wasn't a bear, but a black-eyed, long-eared white rabbit. She wore a pink a white skirt, a pink bib, a golden necklace, and had a pink bow tied around her right ear.

As for her humanoid form, Usami stood at about five foot one (a few inches shorter than Monokuma) and wore the same gold necklace, a pleated white skirt, pink and white striped knee socks, a pink blouse with a breast pocket, a white blazer, and white mules adorned with pink bows. She had long white hair with pink tips that fell to her waist in twin braids with pink bows at the end, bangs that hung down to her eyebrows, and her eyes were pink instead of black.

You weren't at all shocked that the students had managed to create life again, but you still wondered how the logistics worked. As the former Ultimate Pilot, your scientific expertise lies in geoscience and physics (in fact, you teach both at Hope's Peak) rather than robotics, but that doesn't mean you can't be fascinated by the fruits of your students' labor- in fact, you were really interested in getting to know this new addition to the school. Monokuma might be a tad of an annoyance, but you were certain Usami would be different.
