Your Not Alone

Chapter 26- The New Life.

Carl rolls my wheelchair into Ron's house.

There's a staircase in the foyer, that leads upstairs. Ron and Enid are basically halfway up the stairs.

Then Ron turns around.

"Oh right" He says as he walks back downstairs.

"How is this gonna work?" I ask

"Ill carry you." Ron says.

"No, no it's alright" but it was to late Ron already had me in his arms.

"It's alright I got you." He smiles as we head up the stairs.

Carl brings my wheelchair up the stairs.

As we enter Ron's room there was another guy in there with Enid.

"Lauren this is Mikey" he introduces us.

"Why you carrying her?" Mikey laughs.

"Dude she's paralyzed waist down." Carl says placing my wheelchair on the floor.

"I'm so sorry I had no idea" Mikey says. Ron places me in my wheelchair.

"It's fine" I laugh.

"So what do you two want to do?we have video games, tv my dad bought me new comics last week!" Ron says.

I look at Carl and he looks stunned.

"You alright hun?" I ask grabbing his hand.

"Yeah, never better." he sounds overwhelmed.

"Lets play some video games!" He adds with a smile. I giggle I little.

"Carl as much as I'd love to stay we gotta get going, its been 2 hours!" I say looking at my watch, that used to belong to my mom.

"Yeah. yeah I know! I just gotta--" Carl stops mid sentence when Ron kills him.

"No!" He shouts

"Now can we leave?" I laugh.

He sighs and stands picking me up and walks downstairs Mikey and Ron follow, Enid stays upstairs.

As we stop at the bottom Ron places the wheelchair beside Carl and I.

"Thank you for the video games." Carl says placing me in the chair.

"Anytime." they do a 'bro' hug and Carl and I head home.

"That was... Fun." I say unenthusiastically Carl laughs a bit.

"You not into video games?" He asks.

"You could say that. Luke was the ga-" I stop after I mention Lucas and I sigh.

"Luke would've loved being here." I say quickly.

Carl stops pushing the wheelchair.

"I get that Lucas was you brother Laur, but It's been 8 months since he past" Carl says as he kneels beside me.

"We shared a womb Carl! he was my bestfriend!" I shove him off the wheel and wheel myself home, thankfully our house had a ramp.

At dinner Everyone was talking about there day, saying how great it is here. But in reality this place is making us weak, if walkers somehow get in we are dead.

"How are you Lauren?" Carol asks, everyone stops talking and looks at me.

"Umm therapy was a drag, nothing got done. I have to go back tomorrow." I say as I put a piece of chicken in my mouth.

"Keep it positive." Glenn says taking a sip of wine.

"I can't believe you guys are just sitting pretty! what if we need to leave?! y'know survive again?!" I holler.

"Laur, calm down." Carl says from across the table.

"You all are so naive!" I say before I roll myself out of the dining room, to my bedroom on the main floor.

I enter and make I really big effort to move myself to my bed but it failed.

I give up and just sit there against my bed and cry, about everything.

My brother, Beth, Hershel, becoming paralyzed. Just life in general.

"Guess I better try and get up." I whisper to myself.

I wipe away my tears and somehow turn myself around.

I push myself up off of the bed and I stand. By myself.

I smile like an idiot and laugh with joy.

Carl and Rick came to see what was going on.

"Lauren your standing!" Carl says as he runs into my arms.

I laugh as he spins me around.

He sets me down carefully and asks me to walk to the door.

I take one little step and my muscles feel like there on fire. I squint in pain.

"C'mon Lauren you can do this." Carl says confidently completely ignoring our argument earlier.

Then I take two more, muscles still aching. Rick and Carl are smiling like they've won the lottery.

"Your doing it!" Carl says excitedly.

I make it to the doorway and Carl kisses me.

"I knew you could do it." he says as he hugs me then plants another kiss on my lips.
