Author's POV
Shreyas woke up at his usual time, his first instinct was to check on Nayan. His eyes softened as he saw her curled up under the blanket, her face relaxed in sleep. Was she feeling better? He carefully placed his palm on her forehead, relief washing over him when he found her fever had gone down.
He exhaled quietly, not wanting to wake her up, and went to freshen up. By the time he stepped into the hall, the usual morning chaos had already begun-children running around excitedly, elders giving instructions, and the younger ones hurrying to pack things for the picnic.
His mother's voice pulled him from his thoughts.
"Beta, Nayan kaisi hai abhi? Sardi thik hai na uski?" Siya asked, concern evident in her tone. ( Child , how's Nayan ? Is her cold okay?)
"Haan Maa, actually unhe fever tha raat mein, but maine usse medicine de di thi," he answered, choosing his words carefully. He knew how his mother would react.
( Yes ma'am , actually she had a fever at night, but I gave her medicine )
And just as expected- "Hey Ram! Usse bukhar tha aur tumne mujhe bataya bhi nahi?!" Siya scolded, her worried eyes narrowing at him.
(Oh my god! She had a fever and you didn't even tell me?! )
Shreyas sighed, rubbing his forehead. Here we go. "Maa, aapki bahu ne hi mana kiya tha. Sunti toh hai nahi meri," he said, throwing his hands up in mock helplessness.
( Maa, it was your daughter-in-law who said not to tell you. She doesn't listen to me." )
Siya shot him a glare before pushing him aside. "Hatt baju se, jab tak main khud usse nahi dekh leti, tab tak mujhe chain nahi milega!"
(Move aside, I won't rest until I see her by myself! )
Of course. His mother and her habit of worrying over Nayan more than she ever worried for him. Not that he minded. If anything, he found it adorable how much Nayan had won over his family.
"Maa..." he tried to say something, but Siya had already made her way upstairs. He shook his head, a fond smile tugging at his lips.
She walked upstairs and stood in front of her bedroom. Twisting the knob a little she peeked inside only to find no one in the room.
The running water from the bathroom was the only sound in the room indicating that she is taking a shower.
Siya entered inside, closing the door behind her and sat in the bed waiting for her arrival.
After a few minutes she heard the opening of the door and Nayan stepped in the room dressed in a light pink kurta set .
Her steps halted as she saw her mother-in-law in the room.
