Chapter 33:-

Nayan’s POV

“Can I have a moment with Nayan alone?” Vidhi asked as he stepped aside, making her view clear to me.

He looked at me asking if I was fine being alone. My heart felt seeing his concern as I nodded my head.

The door closed softly behind him.A quiet stillness settled inside the room, thick yet fragile  like glass that could shatter with the slightest sound. I stood and walked toward the bed and  sat at the edge of it , my fingers curled loosely over the fabric of my dress, heart beating in a strange rhythm that felt both heavy and hollow.

Vidhi stepped inside slowly. Her steps felt measured , hesitant as if she was scared.

For a moment, neither of us spoke.

The silence between us was awkward  and heavy with unsaid things. I kept my gaze fixed on my hands.

“Can I… sit?” she asked quietly. Her voice was small. Careful. Nothing like the confident, sharp tone she usually carried.

I nodded once as she pulled the chair near the bed and sat down, fingers twisting together in her lap. I noticed how restless she looked and how her shoulders were slightly hunched, like someone waiting for a verdict.

Still, I didn’t speak. The room remained wrapped in silence until she finally broke.

“I’m sorry.” She whispered as her words fell softly into the air.

I lifted my eyes to hear her. Her gaze was already on me, uncertain, almost pleading. I could see the guilt sitting heavily in her eyes, in the way her lips trembled slightly as she tried to hold herself together.

“I know… I don’t deserve forgiveness,” she continued slowly. “But I had to say it. At least once.”

I watched her quietly but something inside me stirred as I let her words settle inside me.

“I was jealous of you,” she confessed, voice breaking slightly. “Since childhood… I loved Shreyas. Everyone knew. I thought… one day he’d see me too. But he never did.”

Her fingers tightened around each other as my head spinned at finally where this conversation was heading.

“He was always kind, always protective… but never like that. Never the way he looks at you.” A hollow laugh escaped her. “And when you came… it felt like everything I’d hoped for just disappeared.”

I remained still but my inside was flooding with emotions.

“I started hating you,” she admitted. “Not because you did anything wrong… but because you had what I wanted. What I thought I deserved.”

Her eyes filled with tears as my eyes burned hearing her confession.

“I didn’t realize when that jealousy turned into something ugly. Something… cruel.”

My chest felt tight, figures getting cold..

“I wanted to hurt you,” she whispered. “I wanted you to feel small. I wanted to see you break… just once. I thought that would make me feel better.”

A tear slid down her cheek.

“But I never imagined…” her voice cracked completely now, “…that it would push you into something like this. I didn’t know about your past. I didn’t know what darkness you were already carrying. If I had known—”

She stopped, covering her mouth as a sob escaped.

“I would’ve never done it. Never. I swear.”

The silence return with us . Heavy and unbearable this time.
