Today was the hottest day of the year in Los Angeles, California. Yeah, that's right. I live in California. I live in an apartment building. Pretty big though. I get my own room, only because I am an only child. I heard talk though of my parents having another kid. Why bother. I mean, they barely even pay attention to me. Anyway, I was really itching to go to the beach. My parents don't trust me to go to the beach alone. It's my favorite place in all of California (next to Disney Land which I barely ever get to go to!) and let me just say California is pretty big. I practically have to beg my parents to go to the beach. They hate the sun. I wonder if they could be vampires. Those two act a lot alike. Makes me wonder why we even live in California.

I got up the courage to go to my mom (She's not as scary as my dad I'll tell you that).

"Mom." I practically whispered.

"Mmmhm?" she replied.

I could tell she wasn't really paying attention.

"Can we go to the beach?" I questioned a little louder this time.

That really got her attention. "

What? Why?" she asked with a hint of annoyance.

"I want to go to the beach and swim." I declared with more confidence.

I could tell she didn't like the idea.

"I promise I'll be good and you can take your umbrella and laptop." I practically pleaded.

She was starting to warm up to the idea.

"You better be glad I charged my laptop last night." she said.

I was practically burst with joy.

When we got there to the beach I ran for the ocean. I jumped right in and swam out to sea. I was so relaxed. I swam farther and farther. I had always loved the ocean. It's so calm and peaceful where the sky's the limit (or sea).

Then, I felt something move. Water rose against my back. I turned around. I wished I didn't. I saw a huge fin coming towards me. I recognized it right away. Terror rose up inside me and consumed me. I swam for my life. I could not out swim it. I heard about shark attacks. I never thought I would be in one myself. I always thought I would live longer. I turned around. I didn't see it. I thought the shark was gone. I floated there in the sea panting from fear. All of a sudden I felt a red hot searing pain rise up in me. Red started to spread across the once blue sea. The shark didn't leave, the realization dawning on me. It just went under. I was starting to lose conscious. I was slipping farther and farther down into the sea that I no longer thought calm and peaceful. The sea now showed a sign of my ending. The last thing I saw before I fully slipped under was my mom working on her laptop. She never saw me. Then, I was gone.
