My life had gone before my eyes. I had gone to the bottom of the ocean. I still had blood coming out. The blood flowed and mixed into the sea. There was a huge chunk of flesh out of my leg. I thought I would never survive. Gallons of water have already gone into my lungs. I lost faith in survival.
I woke up. I thought I was in heaven, but then I realized I was under water alive and breathing. I guess you could say I went into shock, because I was avoiding the obvious thing. I was alive and breathing! I just went with it and kept saying to myself that this is a dream and I just fell asleep on the beach. I looked at my leg after the memory came back to me. I still had the chunk in my leg, but it was a little better. The blood stains were dried. I got up and swam around. Then, I saw a ship wreck. It was huge! It had a white body and had golden sails. It was amazing. Now I really think I'm in heaven. I started to swim towards it. The inside was huge too! It looked as if everything was made of silver and gold. I started to look around. I found a broken mirror (which was in sort of good condition). I picked it up and I looked at myself in the mirror. I screamed and I dropped the mirror and swam away in terror at what I saw. No! No! I don't believe it! I'm on the beach asleep, none of this is real. Then, the image crept back into my mind. I was a monster! I had gills and my face looked grey. I had large teeth. My once brown hair had streaks of silver. I looked at my arms for the first time. I had fins on them. I looked at my feet. They were flippers. I couldn't believe it. The situation finally hit me. This was all real. I had lost everything now. I had lost my family (even though they never cared), my life, and myself. I did not know who I was any more. I started to cry. I was lost of hope.
I stopped crying. I looked to my right. I felt a presence. I heard movement. Was the shark back? There it was again. It was too fast for me to see. Just then I was face to face with the creature. I stared into the eyes not of a shark, but of a human. I backed away. I was looking at what I was now. A monster like me, but a male. I looked closer. I noticed he had a knife at the ready. He was analyzing me. Seeing if I was a threat or not. I was a little insulted at that thought. He had black hair with streaks of gleaming silver mixed in and his hair was a bit long. He looked about my age. This guy also had pale skin, but with an ill sort of grey look. He was also a few inches taller than me. The most striking thing about him though were his eyes. The color was light grey, but that was the most noticeable thing about him. They were filled with caution and determination. He started to step closer towards me. I leaned back.
"Who are you?" the stranger questioned.
The sound of his voice surprised me. It sounded smoother than I thought and he spoke English!
"You speak English!" I said joyfully.
He shook his head and lowered the knife. "No, I speak the tongue of the shark." he replied.
This made no sense. " Could you repeat that?" I said.
"I speak the tongue of the shark and so do you." he replied more firm this time.
" No, I speak English. That's what I am speaking to you in." I replied a bit uncertain.
" I don't think you understand what you are speaking in." the stranger said.
" I have always spoken English and I don't even know what the tongue of the shark is?! What kind of name is that anyway?!" I said more frustrated than ever.
"I think we are getting off topic. Who are you?" he asked.
"Who are you and you didn't answer my question!" I said getting more angry by the second.
"Fine... I will answer your questions. My name is Mako Pierce. The tongue of the shark is my people's language. And yes there are more of us. The tongue of the shark is basically marine language, but more advanced." said Mako.
"So... that answers two of my questions. Still a bit confused on the language thing, but I get the general idea.Oh, my name is Sarah Urban by the way." I blurted.
In general sight maybe it wasn't the best idea to tell him my name so quickly. There was just something about him that I trusted. It's not love! I mean how crazy would that be? I just met him. It's just... he knows what I am so if I want answers I will need to trust him.
"Where are you from?" Mako questioned me with curiosity.
"Los Angeles, California." I said cautiously.
"Wait... you mean the surface?! This explains a lot, but yet... you will need to come with me." Mako decided.
"And where to?!" I fumed.
"Waves Crust. A few miles north." Mako said calmly.
Right about now I am thinking, wow! This guy has absolutely no feelings. He is taking this too well and here I am freaking out and frustrated at the same time! Typical guy.
"Fine, but when we get there I want a better explanation." I demanded.
"That is fair." Mako replied and started to swim away.
I hurried to swim after Mako. Funny how things work. One minute I am swimming then next I am a monster and swimming after a total stranger to who knows where exactly. Well, the craziness probably isn't going to stop there I thought.
"Slow down!" I shouted.
"You hurry up" he countered.
Great. Now he shows feelings.
