It's been 3 weeks since the first day of school. Things are still not exactly the same since the first day of school.

I hurried to the front door of the Pierce's house.

"Please don't be Mako, please don't be Mako." I silently pleaded.

And it's Mako. Great. Just my luck I thought.

"Hey Sarah." Mako said awkwardly.

"Hi." I mumbled.

The silence between us lasted until Sabrina came.

"Hey Sabrina. Let's go." I said grabbing her and trying to swim away.

Darn it! No traction under water I thought.

"Wait. Mako is coming with us." Sabrina said.

I groaned.

"Why are you doing this to me?" I hissed.

"He doesn't have to walk with us, but walk near us. Is that okay?" Sabrina suggested.

"Fine." I pouted.

I know. I'm such a mature 9th grader I thought.

We started to walk with Mako at least 2 feet behind. I refused to talk with him. I still sit with him and Wade at hunt, but only talk to Wade.

As we headed through the center of the city I started to hear a whisper. A eerie sound calling out to me, luring me closer to the alley. A force came over me. Pulling me closer and closer. I heard voices calling out to me and shouting in the distance. I was too far in the trance to hear anything. At the end of the alley I seemed to know what to do. A guiding hand leading me through the motions. I saw nothing or heard nothing. Only felt the voice, the force. I started touching the bricks in a complicated sequence. For what seemed like minutes, the entrance opened and I entered. Without the knowledge what I was about to do.

The whisper was getting closer. Everything was a blur to me as I moved forward. The voice was controlling me. I went toward something. I felt my hand move up. I grabbed something hard, cold, and smooth. I moved along the wall until I came upon a inlet. My hand placed the object into the inlet and then the chaos began.

My senses came back to me in a rush. I doubled over and fell to the ground. I looked at the wall and saw a black gem embedded into the wall. Everything around me was rumbling. The wall in front of me started to sink in. I was in frozen trance and all I could do was watch. I felt hands rush toward me and start to help me up. I barely felt it.

What have I done I thought.

"Sarah! Wake up! We have to get out of here!" said a voice.

I couldn't identify who it was.

"Sarah! Sabrina and I are here! We have to go!" shouted another voice.

I felt the force again that had taken over me. It felt like a cold punch to the heart. I started to shiver and kneel over.

"She's going through shock! We have to get her to a healer!" yelled a voice.

Who are these people? What are they doing I thought. I started to resist. I clawed at them. Fighting against the cold in my heart, but that made it worse. I thrashed and screamed like I was being boiled alive. I tried to go towards the gem. I was delusional. They pulled at me and tried dragging me. Adrenaline was pumping through me. Making me believe these people were threats. That the gem was the answer to ending this suffering. These people didn't realize what was happening. They don't know what I've done. They only think I am ill.
