I woke up that morning feeling perfectly fine. No sick feeling. No dizzyness. Nothing that threw me off. So I went downstairs to make myself some breakfast.
I walked past the front door to find a letter from the hospital that the doctor had refered me to for my first scan. It wasn't until the sixth of May but I had to go to various other blood tests before hand. They had left a number at the bottom for queries. My biggest one was that my first appointment was on the Malaysian Grand Prix weekend. I dialed the number for what I thought was the pregnancy ward and waited for them to answer.
"Hello! North Hampton hospital speaking! What can I do for you?"
"Hi, could you put me through to the pregnancy ward?"
"Yes, just hang on a minute
The line went quiet until a mans voice filled the silence.
"Pregnancy ward speaking, how can I help you?"
"Hi! Can you put me through to Doctor Harlan?"
"Of course I can! Just hold on a second"
Suddenly I heard a very British female voice.
"Hello! You must be Miss Barker! I have a lot of free time today so if you can then please come down here and we can have a talk face to face! Feel free to bring the Dad so that you can both have your questions answered"
"Okay! Thank you! I'll drop by later!"
Eventually I made myself some breakfast. A slight feeling of nausea came over me as I staggered back upstairs to make myself look presentable enough to go out of the house. Not to dressed up as it was only the hospital.
Finally, I grabbed my car keys and made my way towards the car.
Don't play up now. Don't feel dizzy or be sick. You could seriously injure yourself or worse if you are.
I took a deep breath and grabbed hold of the steering wheel. I turned the car on and headed for the hospital.

I grabbed what seemed to be the only parking space left. It was pretty manic.
Once inside I was already lost. There were so many signs that guided you to every floor and every ward.
"Excuse me? Are you ok?"
I snapped out of my daydream.
"Oh. I'm ever so sorry. I was just a little away with it. Do you happen to know where the pregnancy ward is?"
"Yes I do! You need to go up two flights of stairs so that you are on the floor of the ward, there will be a sign that tells you, and just sign in at the nurses desk"
"Thank you so much!"
"No problem! Bye!"
"Bye"
I took the ladies advice, went up the two flights of stairs and went over to the nurses desk.
"Hi! How can I help you?"
"I'm here to see Doctor Harlan"
"Room 33"
"Thank you"
I went over to the door and lightly knocked on it.
"Come in"
I opened the door and greeted my doctor. She was rather small with shoulder length blonde hair and icy blue eyes.
"Lovely to meet you Sophie"
"You too"
"So I believe that you have some questions to ask me"
"Yes I do"
"Fire away"
"I have a very busy job as I work as Nico Hulkenberg's press officer in Formula One. A lot of my schedualed blood tests are when I am working at races so what should I do?"
"Is there an on track doctor or anyone that can take the blood and send it here?"
"We have an on track medic and a team nurse so if I contact them they should be able to do that"
"Great"
"Also, I don't have a due date yet but if I go into labour and I'm at a track what is the best thing for me to do?"
"When you are heavily pregnant you need to have someone with you all the time, preferably the Dad and have a medic on standby"
"What if I am so far into labour that I have to give birth at the track?"
"You may have to be taken to some sort of back room but if you can't it will be a little unhygenic in the garage but you may have no choice"
"Ok. What about flying? I know there is a rule about eight months pregnant and over can't fly. I will be around eight months and the biggest race of the season is then"
"Is it big enough to miss?"
""Not at all. It is the final of the season and there is a lot of media work to be done"
"Right..."
"How can I get to Abu Dhabi without flying?"
"Well...I honeslty don't know! Will you be seven months a few days before the planned flight?"
"Yes, would I be permitted to fly then?"
"You should be. You will have to double check with the plane company first"
"Okay! That's all!"
"Thank you for popping by! I'll see you at your twelve week scan!"
"Thank you! Bye!"
Even after that, the fact that I was pregnant with Nicos baby still hadn't sunk in. I couldn't even come to terms with the fact that he didn't know.
Everything was already way to much for me, so as soon as I got home I took off my makeup, ran a bath and lit some candles.
If I'm every stressed I have a small glass of wine. I went downstairs, took a bottle of wine out of the rack and realised I couldn't drink anything because I was pregnant. I sighed heavily and had a glass of water instead.
I relaxed in the bath as my phone beeped. It was Nico.

I smiled at the last message, got out the bath, lightly patted my stomach and went to sleep.
