Special 2: Past (1)

A/N: I'm boring and kind of stuck on how to continue the story, so I'll write a special chapter:D This idea just popped up in my head and I want to make it become a chapter. *This isn't counted as the main storyline*

9 PM

Touka and Kaneki are holding each other's hands and walking in the middle of the crowded street, with glowing buildings and people walking around. Doesn't know since when, but Touka doesn't notice she has already felt comfortable holding Kaneki's hand in public, something that she used to be embarrassed.

"Is it ok for you to meet me like this?" Touka worriedly asked, she knew Kaneki was still a member of Aogiri, going out with her like this may potentially cause him trouble.

"It's fine, they won't know, even if they know, I have ways to deal with them." Kaneki curtly said, his voice was heavy. Trying to act normal, but for Touka, she could easily notice he's not in a good state.

A heavy feeling hung in the air between them, which made Touka feel insecure and worry about Kaneki. He's still smiling, still holding her hand, and filling her ear with sweet words... Despite Touka already feeling irritation at his fake behaviour, why does he need to fake that he's fine in front of her?

It's such a miracle that this meeting happened unexpectedly, when Kaneki was wandering around a random ward and enjoying his time, trying to relax from all the stress and everything that is happening in Aogiri, the tough training that he's enduring, those fights with doves that he engaged in, and on top of that, those nightmares and Touka's safety keep bothering him.

The library that Touka usually studies at is near here, and it leads to the situation now. They treasure this moment, and Touka wants to have a walk with Kaneki, talk to him about her life, and also wants to know more about his life at Aogiri. She knows it must be tough, but reassuring and motivating him is her purpose.

"Are you good? You clearly show tiredness," Touka pushed the topic, urging Kaneki to honestly tell her about his life.

"It's ok, Touka-chan. Don't worry," Kaneki smiled, a fake one. His hand soullessly holding onto Touka's.

Again...? He doesn't want me to worry... Or I'm just not trustworthy enough?... Touka thought

A spark of ignite is rising, how could he hide it? She can't just say that Shuu is a spy in Aogiri, and she has known everything that is happening by eavesdropping on the conversation between Shuu and Yoshimura; she wants him to be honest and share it with her.

As they walked to a park, where there were not so many people around at this time, Touka started to push the topic further.

"I can share that burden with you, just speak out if you need company, Kaneki." She held his hand tighter, gesturing that she'll always be here with him and be his reassurance.

"Uhmm," Kaneki curtly said,

Opposite to it, Kaneki is hiding his pain from Touka. He loved her and was happy that he had met her unexpectedly like this, but not in this state. His mind and body are not in a good state at all. He is afraid that he won't be able to hide his state from Touka, and yes, he can't hide it.

"I know you have a lot of things on your mind now..." Touka still doesn't give up on making him say, who knows how much time they have left until he has to come back to Aogiri's base and won't meet again for a long time.

Please stop, Touka Kaneki secretly begs, with this amount of stress and tiredness built up inside. Her urging just puts more frustration on Kaneki.

"Please... Touka." Kaneki started talking, his voice repressing the frustration. "Just switch to another topic..."

They both stop walking, with Kaneki also feeling a little bit of frustration at Touka; she's too stubborn already, isn't she? He doesn't want to see her worried face anymore. If she knew what was happening to him, she would just mess up her own life worrying about him.
