"I'm not your boyfriend," Bright said, his voice low but steady.
Win nodded, eyes downcast. "I know that."
Bright took a step closer. "But you're mine."
Win gave a bitter smile. "It was part of the job, Bright."
"So?" Bright challenged. "That was work. This... this is real life."
Win swallowed hard. "You know what I'm trying to say."
"I do," Bright said. "But I don't care. It can't end here."
"It has to," Win whispered. "It just... it can't happen."
Bright's expression hardened, possessive and unrelenting. "Then you're not going to be anyone else's either."
Win's head snapped up. "How can you say that?"
"Because I'm the only one who's ever touched you like that," Bright murmured. "The only one who ever will."
Win flinched at the raw honesty of it. "So that's it? Just because you want it?"
"I'm sorry, Bright," he said, voice trembling. "I don't belong to anyone."
Bright stepped forward, eyes blazing. "Should I show you who you belong to?"
Win took a step back. "Please, just let me be."
"No."
"Please, I'm begging you." His voice cracked now. "If we go through with this... there's so much we'll have to face."
Bright's tone softened, but the fire never left his eyes. "Then we'll face it together. You don't have to do this alone. Just be mine. Will you?"
Win looked away, torn. "I have to think. It's not easy."
Bright's voice dropped to a near-whisper. "It is... because you already love me."
Without warning, Bright swept him up into his arms, holding him bridal-style like he'd done so many times before in training. He carried Win to the car, gently placing him on the hood. Win didn't resist—couldn't. Bright leaned in, his breath warm against Win's cheek.
"What are you doing?" Win asked, eyes wide.
"Taking my answer," Bright murmured.
"You're so demanding," Win said, a breathless laugh slipping out.
"You know what I want."
"You really can't wait, can you?"
Bright's gaze flickered with fear and longing. "No. I'm scared someone will take you away from me."
They both laughed softly, the kind of laugh that came from relief and vulnerability all at once. And then, Bright leaned in and kissed him—slowly, gently—like a promise wrapped in silence.
When he pulled back, his voice was barely audible.
"I love you. You're not going anywhere."
