The room was dimly lit, the quiet hum of the AC blending with the stillness of the late hour. Thyme leaned against the doorway, arms folded, eyes fixed on the figure curled beneath a blanket on the couch.
"Kavin, stop being nervous and answer me."
The lump stirred.
"No, no... I'm good," came the muffled, shaky voice. Thyme didn't buy it. Kavin was clearly shivering.
"What happened to you? You're freezing."
"Nothing... I was sleeping. It was... a bad dream."
Thyme stepped closer, unimpressed. "You lie so badly, Kavin."
"N-no! I'm telling the truth."
Without asking, Thyme leaned in and placed a hand on Kavin's forehead. The moment skin met skin, Kavin let out an involuntary, soft moan.
Thyme jerked his hand back. "Are you high?"
Kavin groaned. "Umm... I drank a little."
"So why didn't you tell me?"
"Do I have to tell you everything?"
Thyme narrowed his eyes. "No. But I should know if you're drinking alone. What if something happened? What if you passed out in some hotel lobby?"
Kavin looked away. "Why do you even care?"
"Can't I worry about you?"
"I'm not your—"
"What?"
"I mean... I'm not your lover."
Thyme sighed, long and deep. "You're jealous."
"What?" Kavin blinked, confused.
"You're jealous I had a date with Leila today."
"NO!"
"You can be. It's okay."
"NOOO I'm not!" Kavin pouted, lips curving adorably. Thyme chuckled at the sight.
"You know... there's nobody who can steal me from you."
"Hm?"
"Because I've been in love with you for decades."
Kavin looked like he might melt into the couch. "I think I dream too much."
Thyme gently pulled him into his arms. "This isn't a dream. I know you love me. You deny it a thousand times a day, but your actions say otherwise. You're a terrible liar. And you get too shy to look at me when I get too close. You think I haven't noticed?"
Kavin's voice cracked, soft as a whisper. "I'm sorry... I love you, Thyme. It's hard to deny that. And..."
"Enough." Thyme cupped his cheek, thumb brushing gently. "Now I know you love me. And you know I love you. That's all that matters. I'm all yours."
Kavin hiccupped, drowsiness overtaking him. "Can we talk later...? I feel... I feel drowsy... I..."
Thyme caught him as he slumped, holding him close with a protective arm.
He kissed his forehead softly. "My chipmunk... love you."
In the warmth of that embrace, Kavin finally let go and fell into peaceful sleep, heart full, knowing he no longer had to dream alone.
