Weakened

The credits of the movie began listing out when the door to my room swung open.

Niall jumped a bit, his whole body jerking upwards.

Laughing at his reaction, I looked towards whoever entered my room.

Standing in the doorway was a young woman with blonde hair slicked back into a tight ponytail. Her headset microphone pulled down so it hung around her neck. Her thin frame was clad with an X Factor Faculty shirt and black shorts that reached mid-thigh.

"Hi Annie, what's up?"

Her eyes were widened with pity of some sort as they darted around, searching for the right words. "You'd better come quick. It's Stan-"

My heart skipped a few beats as I jumped off the bed and ran towards the door, pushing past her.

I sprinted down the hallway. My legs pumped under me as doors flew behind me until I came to his room and ran inside, walking over to his bed to see if he was there.

Stan laid there on his back, his face pale as he drew weary breaths in and out of his mouth, wheezing.

His hair clung to his forehead due to cold sweat, his cheeks sunken in.

"Stan?"

He began twitching repeatedly, his eyes failing to open. He let out a thick cough, moaned, and exhaled a shaking breath.

Reaching a hand up, I felt his forehead.

It was ice cold, which sent chills throughout my body.

I could hear Niall and Annie ran in through the door a behind me, both panting with exhaustion.

"I called the building's EMTs, they are going to take him to the hospital immediately." Niall insured from behind me.

He was going to be okay, I thought to myself.

Stan is a rock, he can get through anything, I convinced myself.

Stay strong. He would want you to.

A moment later the EMTs barged through the door. Lifting Stan onto a long gurney, strapped him down, and began rolling him out of the room.

His huge, cold body laid limply on the stretcher, as one arm hung off and dangled over the edge.

The stretcher turned a hard right as they raced it down the hallway to go outside.

I rushed past Niall and Annie and chased after the EMTs.

Swinging open the double doors, wind slapped my face as I scanned the spots to see where they were.

A group of people loaded the gurney into the rear of the ambulance across the lot, shutting the back doors and drove away, sirens blaring.

The noise faded as the ambulance sped down the street.

My body felt frozen, every muscle stiffened, as I stood outside the building.

An arm draped over my shoulder.

"He's going to be okay." Niall ensured quietly, using his other arm to wipe a tear off my cheek.

No matter how much I wanted to believe what he said, I knew it wasn't true.
