I woke up the next day to feel my head resting on somebody's lap.
Niall had stayed the night.
He fell asleep sitting up, with his head tilted forward and his eyes closed, his eyelashes fluttering as he snored. His arm remained around me the entire night.
My whole entirety felt so empty.
I would've cried,
Or been angry at whoever started the fire,
Or the fact that all of my practical siblings had their lives cut short.
But instead I felt nothing, and I think that was scariest of all.
I slowly sat up, attempting not to disturb Niall, then swung my legs over the bed and stood up.
Walking around to the side of the bed, I slowly laid Niall downwards, one hand under his back to prevent him from falling to quickly, until he was laying down completely, then pulled the covers over him, tucking him in. He remained sound asleep.
I crept over to the door to the balcony, unlocked it, and slid it open. Cold gusts of wind whipped across my face, the sun slowly making its way into the sky.
I climbed up and sat on the railing of the overhang and spun around so my back was facing the room.
I watched as the sun crept up, painting reds, yellows and oranges across the sky.
I leaned over to glance at the ground below.
It was at least a forty-foot drop.
I could actually do it.
I could end all bad things that have ever happened to me.
All I had to do was jump.
And maybe, if there was a heaven, I would be able to see Jared again.
If not, I would no longer have to feel pain.
Or sorrow.
Or ever feel alone again.
It would be just like falling asleep and never waking up.
Either way would be better than living without hope.
This was it.
I drew in a deep breath and began to kick off.
And I let go.
Two arms wrapped around me, jerking be back until I fell back onto the balcony floor on top of another body.
"ARE YOU MAD?! What the hell do you think you're doing???" The body exclaimed from underneath me.
I rolled off to see it was Niall who disturbed my attempt to end it all.
"YOU HAVE WAY TOO MUCH TO LIVE FOR TO JUST END IT ALL!!!" He scolded, fuming.
Anger boiled over inside of me.
What did my life matter to him? Or even whether I chose to end it or not?
"WHAT IS IT TO YOU? I CAN DO WHAT I WANT!" I shouted back.
"Because."
"IS THAT ALL YOU CAN SAY NIALL? 'BECAUSE'?!"
"Because," he paused, sitting up, "I can't lose you."

When Everything is Nothing. (Niall Horan Fanfic)
