"He's in good hands Brodie,"

"He wouldn't want you upset Brodie,"

"They're gonna help him get better Brodie,"

I heard it again and again, how much better he'd be, how everything was going to be okay again.

They were wrong.

It was two Sundays I got the call.

Rain dripped down the glass windows of my hotel room, thunder booming and lightening flashing in the sky.

I strolled through the doorway, Harry following, after returning from a hospital visit.

Images of Stan's weakening body lurked in my mind.

His cheeks hollowed, his face a ghostly white.

His beautiful, thick hair thinned, gray, and missing in numerous places.

His occasional squirm in pain followed by cold sweat.

I longed to stay with him, but my sleep deprived state was lagging me, and the last thing I wanted was to give my cold to his fragile corpse, which could possibly finish his life.

I plopped down on my couch, and within a few moments the room phone rang.

"Hulloh?"

Niall immediately answered, his eyebrows furrowed in concern, his eyes concentrating greatly. He nodded occasionally before handing me the phone.

"Is this Brodie-" the speaker paused for a second, "There is no last name listed here, but-"

"Yep?" I hummed, my whole body quaking as I twitched my right knee up and down in agitation.

"I'm sorry to tell you this, but Stan's disease has spread to his heart. There is no telling how long..."

"A month"

"We tried"

Bits and pieces of the conversation stung as my thoughts clouded.

Before I knew it the phone was on the ground.
