it was storming outside.

the storm took over the sky as whole, under the storm was a wet and damped kai walking as each step he took was squishy.

he been walking for two hours now, but he wouldn't know due to the fact he lost his phone. he didn't bring nothing but himself and faith.

that's all he had at the moment.

his hoodie, once thick and kept him warm and soft was clinging to his body like dead weight, heavy and soaked all the way by the heavy rain. his jeans stuck to his legs as it was filled moisture. that's all he had–no coat, no umbrella, nothing.

his face was aching at this point. his face felt swollen as his jaw was tight, his eyes wanting to close by itself because of the overbearing pain. it was blood dried beneath his nose, crusting but falling off by the rain beaming on his face once and awhile. his hands were trembling and his body was shaking by the coldness it was taking. it couldn't take it any longer and the aftershocks of fear.

he was walking on the side of the road, every car that passes startled him as he was high alert. every sound felt too loud and too sharp for him to remember.

but he kept walking.

there were only one place he could finally stop and put his guard down during this time, and it was duke's home.

he panted in tiredness, looking up to see a house at the corner. he saw the outside home lights on with solar stick lights planted inside. his breathing stopped—he made it.

his feet picked up like it never thought before, using all his energy to keep moving. all you can hear the wetness inside his shoes against the concrete and his jeans moving side by side.

by the time he reached the porch, he was shivering violently that he could do. the rain was dripping by his dreads and the droplets throughout his whole neck and face, going right back into his clothing. he panted in tiredness, hearing a chime coming from the ring camera. he looked up to see a red dot notifying him that he's being recorded.

he ignored it, finding the doorbell to ring. he could barely lift his arm, pressing the bell to hear it ring.

he stand there for a few seconds, still shivering as it wasn't no response.

"please..." kai whispered, pressing it twice to notify somebody.

someone.

then he heard footsteps. behind the glass, you could see a tall muscular figure coming to the door as they start unlocking the locks.

the door opened, showing the main person he was looking for.

duke stood there, smile already forming on his face out of pure habit–until his eyes met kai's.

his smile dropped, his shattering at he finally seen kai.

"kai?" duke's voice dropped into a serious way as he stepped forward.

he watched the boy having his head down, hugging himself to keep warmth from the cold rain.

"come in. please," he stepped forward, placing his arm behind kai's back to guide him in.

kai couldn't speak. he couldn't. he felt his throat being raw even when he whispered. his legs moved on autopilot, stepping over the threshold like he didn't believe he made it here.
