"Why did you do that to me? Did you even know who I was talking to?" I scold after we get into the car.
"No, I didn't, Julee." she snaps back, "Who was it?"
"It was Luke. The boy that I told you about earlier. Did you not hear me say his name?" I reply.
"I guess it just flew over my head! Look, I'm sorry for not paying attention, okay?" mom yells.
I don't reply back for a while. Usually, she notices everything.
"Okay." I say looking down.
"Thank you." she says, sounding like she's tearing up.
"It's just that you usually pay attention to everything. Is there something going on?" I ask.
"It's nothing. Nothing that has to do with you right now." mom replies, hesitating.
"Are you sure that you don't want to tell me?" I ask. Mom takes a deep breath, and is silent for a minute or so.
"I'll...tell you some other time, honey." Mom says nervously.
"Um...okay....I guess." I reply.
We don't talk the whole ride home. We're sitting in the car, my mom in the driver's seat, me in the passenger seat, listening to music. I gaze out the window, wondering what Luke was going to ask me. Before I know it, we're driving into the garage. We start to carry in the groceries.
"Julee?" Mom asks.
"Yeah?" I reply.
"I...I don't think I'm up for the mall today. Do you mind if we stay home?"
"Yeah-No, i-it's fine, Mom."
She thanks me, and asks me to help put away the groceries.
We finish putting the food away, and I head up to my room. I grabbed my laptop and sit on my bed after turning it on. I log into facebook. I've got a new friend request and some messages. I don't check it for a while. I message Mariah, and she replies almost instantly. I tell her about my event at the store, and she excessively talks about how she thinks we're love birds and how we'll be together forever.
"Stop annoying me!"
"No! It's fun nagging you about
<3 Luke <3! :P""Please stop! It's not funny anymore!" I beg her.
"Noooooo! You and I both know that you loooooveee him! You're the one that mentioned it anyway!" She replies.
She had a point. I did bring the subject up. "I don't love him!!" I reply to her as I check my friend request bubble. It's just some random Bruno Mars fangirl from Paraguay. I decline the request.
"I can see it in your eyes! You can't deny that you don't at least like him!" Mariah messaged.
"I can admit that he has good looks, but I don't even know him! How am I supposed to like him??"
"Gurl, Don't deny it."
"GAH. Stop talking about it, alright?" I push.
"Fine. Do the rest of those assignments you have to do. I'm not letting you fail this semester like you almost did last year."
"Again; GAH."
"Alright, gotta go..."
"Go where???" I ask her.
"Ehhh....noooowherrreeee....."
"Mariah... tell me!!! I thought you were too hungover to go anywhere..."
"Byeee!" She quickly types. Seconds later, I see her profile switch to 'offline'.
I put my laptop on sleep mode and toss it over to a large pile of pillows in the corner of my room, hoping it won't hit the wall like my old one did. I lie down on my bed and close my eyes. I think about what happened at the grocery store, and what'll happen when we go back to school, and having Luke at our lunch table.
