It was going to be a great day, everything was planned down to the last detail. After breakfast, I had to go to the barber. I just needed to get my ends trimmed because I wanted to look perfect for my date. Everything was going well, the hairdresser was washing my hair, and I was happy and relaxed. As he started cutting my hair, he asked me some polite and curious questions about my life. I answered them cheerfully until the big question came.

"What do you do for a living?" Actually, that question wasn't the problem. I didn't mind revealing what my job was, in fact, I liked seeing people's reactions when they found out.

"I'm a medical examiner."

"Oh, wow. That must be interesting. I'm sure It's amazing to be able to discover the cause of someone's death just by looking inside their body."

"Yes, it's really exciting." Well, everything was going well. Then the problem came. Maybe it's because I'm locked up with dead bodies all day, but I find it incredibly difficult to socialize with living beings. I could have stayed silent, there was no need to say anything else. But no, I had to speak. "And what do you do for a living?"

What a stupid question I asked. He stopped cutting my hair and looked straight at my eyes through the mirror. He didn't say anything, there was no need to, it was an obvious answer. That's when I should have known the day was going to get worse.

Without another word, he finished cutting my hair, and I didn't even dare to speak when I paid. I tried not to think about it and went to the restaurant for my date. I was nervous because it was a blind date arranged by my aunt, who said I spent more time with dead people than living ones.

I arrived at the restaurant early because I wanted to make a good impression. Half an hour later, I was still sitting awkwardly alone.

"Are you waiting for someone?" The waiter looked at me with pity.

"Yes, yes, she's a little late, but she'll be here."

Another half an hour later, the waiter approached again.

"Excuse me, but if you don't order anything, you'll have to leave."

"Oh, okay." It was obvious I'd been stood up. It happens often, I don't know why I was surprised. But it certainly wouldn't have happened if I'd been meeting someone who was dead. Corpses were kinder. "I'll have the menu of the day."

"Enjoy your meal." He said, placing a plate of chicken and vegetables on the table.

"Thanks, you too."

"What?" He looked at me confused.

"Nothing," I began to eat, so as not to say anything even more stupid.

Although it wasn't a date anymore, after eating I decided to go to the movies anyway.

We were supposed to watch a romantic movie, but since I was alone, I decided to watch a horror movie instead. I had a good time; the movie was entertaining. Before leaving, I left the empty popcorn bucket on the counter.

"Did you enjoy the movie?" The worker picked up the bucket.

"Yeah, I had a lot of fun. The best part was when they discovered the dead man had been poisoned, right?"

"If you say so, I haven't seen it. I've been around here, working."

"Oh, right." I left, mortified, the day couldn't get any worse.

Then I saw a girl. She was walking toward me and raised her hand in a wave. Was my date really that late? Did that mean she hadn't stood me up? I waved back, but she stopped a few steps in front of me and hugged another girl. I kept my hand raised until a taxi stopped next to me. At least I'd avoided the embarrassment of greeting someone I didn't know.

"Where do you want me to take you, sir?"

"Home, I need to go home."

The man looked at me through the rearview mirror. "Sir, I need your address to take you home."

"Oh, yeah, true." I gave him my address without being able to look him in the eyes. Ten minutes later, he pulled up on the street outside my house. I paid him and opened the door. "Thanks, dad"

"Excuse me?"

I slammed the door without looking back and ran home. In the elevator, I looked in the mirror and saw that I was as red as a tomato. It couldn't be true. For one day that I decided to go out and socialize, all of this had to happen to me. Luckily, I had to work the next day. I couldn't wait to get there and find a new body to investigate.
