Finally, I finished cleaning up. It is now lunch time and luckily I can still get some food before the bell rings.

As I sit at my usual spot, away from everyone else, I take out the journal from my bag and examine it. It really is old.

"1890," I say out loud to no one in particular.

Just as I open it, a voice comes out of nowhere,
"Can I sit here, Lindsey?"

It is Allison, my new labby. Labby is my short for lab partner.

I nod as I find no reason to be rude to her since I actually had fun with her in science class with the whole kaboom.

She sits beside me without a second thought. I feel sudden glances from all over the cafeteria. I give them my usual glare and they all resume their lunch and gossip.

Ugh... I hate gossiping fools.

"What's that you got there?" asks Allison.

"Oh, nothing," I say as I write my name on the first page.

"Lindsey Agnes Knightley."

As soon as I write down the words, they disappear and new words come out.

"Hello, Lindsey Agnes Knightley! I am Henry Fitzwilliam Knightley."

Is this supposed to be a Harry Potter reenactment?

"Wow, how'd that happen? Is it some kind of new tablet or gadget that looks like a rusty-old book?" Allison asks with wonder in her brown eyes.

I am dumbfounded at the moment but manage to say, "No. It's just an ordinary journal."

At least, I think it is.

"Then how did that happen?"

"Don't know."

"Where did you get it?"

"From my house's attic."

"Try writing something else."

I write,
Who are you?

The words disappear and new ones apear.

"I... am a distant relative or you can say ancestor."

"This is freaking! Do you know what this means!"

I shake my head in denial.

"It means we've got a mystery to solve! Oh, I'm so excited!"

"We?"

"Yes, why not?"

"Hate to break it to you, but I am quite a... laconic person and you're a... gregarious, yeah, a gregarious! person."

"Oh, don't use your big words on me. You obviously need my help. Or else, you can not solve the mystery!"

"What are you? Some kind of a rookie teenaged detective?" I say sarcastically.
She is the same age as me afterall.

She giggles a bit and says,"You can say that."

"I don't think..."

Just as I'm about to argue more, the bell rings.

"Awh... I wanted some more free time. Anyways, then it is settled. We will meet after school in the main hallway and I know a guy who can also help." She quickly finishes her lunch and gets up for her next class.

I don't make friends of my own gender. Let alone the opposite one.

Man... I'll decide later whether I'm going to meet her and this guy or not.

But now, I tug at my blue blazer and run to my next class.
