1 ❣ See-saw of Emotions
The laughter of the kids echoed around the playground of the nearby park. Since it was only a minute or less walk from our apartment, I always came here with Suin when she wanted to meet her friends or just have fun outside.
I sat on the bench located under the tree and watched over Suin as she climbed up the higher part of the slide with the other kids chasing after her. Suin's like that. She's always the fastest kid. I wonder if she would be a runner one day.
Suin triumphantly put her hand in the air, showing that she was the first up the slide and slid down it. Once she touched the ground, her little legs began running towards me until she fell into my arms.
"Omo! Suin-a, are you okay? Is it fun playing with your friends?" I asked her, brushing her messed up bangs. Her cheeks were red from the heat and sweat took part of most of her, which made her hair damp.
Suin nodded while panting. "I'm having so much fun, unnie!"
I smiled at her and told her, "Good. But we have to go soon. It's almost six."
Suin's face fell as she frowned. "That soon? Can't we stay longer?"
I brushed Suin's hair. "No, we can't, Suin. Mom is going to make kimchi soup tonight so we should quickly head back."
Suin's eyes twinkled by the word 'kimchi soup' and instantly, she said, "I'll play a little more and then go back!"
I laughed at her cute actions. I held her by the shoulders and said, "Arasso, go on and play with your friends. Unnie will be here."
Suin smiled at me again before running back to the playground and began playing around with the other kids.
I smiled and continued to watch over her but that was until a bottle was waved in front of my face, which shocked me and made me draw my head back.
A laughter was heard behind me. "Did I scare you that much, Min Jae?"
I turned around and saw Soonyoung wearing his white beanie that covers his blonde hair. I still wonder why he dyed his hair. I personally liked the black hair but he looks cooler in the blonde. "Yah, Kwon Soonyoung, what are you doing here?"
"Wae? I can't see my best friend?" he asked, taking a seat next to me as he opened his drink. After a while, he took something from the floor and handed it to me. It was a bottle of vitamin water, lemonade—my favourite. "Here you go."
"Huh? This is for me?" I asked him, feeling giddy. It was really hot today and I was craving something cold.
"Geureom," Soonyoung answered. "It's for my best friend. Of course I would've bought you a drink, don't you think so?"
I smiled at him and opened the drink. To be completely honest, it hurt when Soonyoung kept calling me as his best friend. Just his best friend. His buddy. His chum. His pal. Anything that doesn't relate to his girl.
Yes, you guessed it. I'm hopelessly in love with my best friend, Kwon Soonyoung. He doesn't know it. I'm having the one-sided love. I like him so much that it kills me to even think of confessing because it might lead to a very awkward relationship or just getting rejected.
Which I'm scared of.
I don't like confessing because I'm afraid of getting heartbroken afterwards. I'll never know if I'll ever have the chance but it's safer this way. I remain a far distance so I would be okay and not regret my decision of confessing.
