20 ❣ The Mermaid's Lost Tail

At dinner at the hanok village, I sat as far away as possible from Soonyoung, since everyone was gathered here. Well, except for Jihoon's dad and Solji's mom. It was more like the teenagers occupy this room and eat dinner while the adults sat somewhere else and ate their dinner with the kind halmoni.

"Jalmokseosibnida," we all said as we began digging into the delicious food that was prepared in front of all of us. It was like heaven to see this much delicious food in front of us.

In the middle of eating, Sungcheol—who sat next to me—asked me in a whisper, "Who's the girl with the bun?"

I turned my attention to him and ate a spoonful of rice and asked, "You mean Nabi?"

"Her name is Nabi?" He seemed to be staring at her with—if I'm not mistaken—lovesick eyes. My cousin has a crush on my friend? I don't know whether to feel disgusted or happy. "She's really pretty and cute."

Why am I getting goosebumps from this? Oh, that's because Choi Sungcheol, my annoying cousin, seem to be drooling over my best friend. Should I tell Nabi to stay away from him or watch as their story unfolds?

"Oppa, seolma..." I swear, I almost choked on the rice I was chewing when I saw Sungcheol blushed as he turned away from looking at her.

"Yah, neo gwaenchana?" Sungcheol asked worriedly, handing me a glass of water. "Aish, you shouldn't have stared at me like that. I know I'm handsome, but you're my cousin, Seo Min Jae."

That made me choke on my water.

"Aish, it's a good thing I came on this trip. Look at how you handle yourself." Sungcheol handed me a tissue. "It's not good."

I wiped away the water that I accidentally spurted out due to Sungcheol's cheesiness. "Aish, it's your fault, Choi Sungcheol! Why do you have to be so cheesy?"

"Waeyo? You know it's true," he said, grinning at me as he ate a spoonful of rice. Then, in a whisper, he said, "Introduce me to her. Please? I'll do anything, Seo Min Jae!"

To have my cousin beg me to introduce him to Nabi, I was absolutely left flustered and flabbergasted. For one, Sungcheol was the type who looked like he could easily play a girl's heart. I wasn't sure about this. I just have mixed feeling about the whole thing.

"Err... I don't know about that, oppa," I said, gulping down my food. "I have a weird feeling about that."

"Aish, it's just because you don't like me breaking her heart and then I end up breaking your friendship!" he shouted whisper to me. "I know, okay, Min Jae? I've been in those type of situations before."

"I—"

Then Sungcheol looked at me with those irritating puppy eyes I love/hate. Aish, why is he always doing this to me?

"Fine," I grumbled, admitting defeat. "After dinner, I'll introduce the both of you."

Sungcheol's face instantly brightened up and it was somehow contagious. I ended up smiling the whole time during dinner and caught Jihoon glancing at me, who also smiled because of me.

"Why are you guys so smiley?" Dong Jae asked, noticing our smiles.

"Because why not? There are many reasons why we're smiling. Because of the way someone made us feel, or because of the delicious food! Or even because we're here together!" I said, cheery. I wasn't really supposed to say anything, but I ended up doing so.
