I stared down at my golden hand mirror with a cocktail of emotions swirling in my stomach. In the reflection, a fair-skinned girl with cherry red lips stared back at me. At a first glance she looked well; you could even say that she looked strong. Though if you gazed into her eyes long enough you'd be able to catch her calm façade.

"Evie!" a voice from behind called and broke my stare. Dropping the mirror into my purse, I spun sharply on my heels to face Doug.

"Yes?" I flashed a smile followed by a nervous swallow.

He held out his hand for me to take, "Come on."

Without giving it a second thought, I hesitated. I didn't intend too, but I think I was too busy trying to focus my energy into keeping my knees from buckling. Doug gave me a concerned look.

"Is something wrong?"

My eyes trailed to the ground. They focused on the grass bellow; it was so luscious and green that it almost looked fake. Only a place like Auradon could manage to grow something like it.

I didn't know what to say. I didn't know how to tell him. Instead I just kept biting the inside of my lips anxiously. It was Parents day. A year after my transfer. And to say I was scared didn't do the emotions justice.

Doug grabbed my hand and gave it a comforting squeeze, "Is it about my dad?" his eyes were so kind it was unfair, "Don't worry; he'll love you."

I could see my faint reflection in his glasses, "But you know...my mum and all..." he didn't let me get another word in.

"Hey. That was her; not you."

Though that lifted my spirit a little, I still couldn't shake my uneasiness. I struggled to form a proper response amid. Tired of stuttering I leapt forward and threw my arms around my boyfriend. I buried my face in the crook of his neck and took a deep breath.

"Thank you."

Doug planted a soft kiss on the side of my head before pulling away, "My dad mightn't be the brightest of the bunch, but his heart is in the right spot."

I let out my first genuine giggle.

Once again, Doug took my hand firmly in his and led me through the crowd. We moved so quickly I didn't have much of a chance to dawdle on any thoughts.

Until we stopped.

A blend of nerves, fear and for the first time; excitement brewed in my stomach as we approached a stout man. He was slightly taller than the tales, but kept the classic green and orchid scheme in his suit.

A warm smile grew from one ear to the other across his kind face.

"Dad," Doug began from my left, "Meet my girlfriend, Evie. Evie this is Dopey."

I beamed sweetly as I leant down into a curtsy, "Lovely to meet you, sir."

Dopey laughed as he pulled me into a tight hug, "The pleasure is all mine."
