"Here it is," Jay beamed as he nudged playfully at Carlos' side. The group of us stood before the line to the largest rollercoaster in the amusement park. It twisted mercilessly and echoed with the screams of its victims.

Mal took a deep breath in and exhaled with a smile, "Well? What are we waiting for?" She scooped my hand into hers as she took a step towards the coaster, only to be tugged backwards.

I couldn't bring my legs to work.

"What's wrong?" she asked.

At first I hesitated, "Hungry," I managed as I scratched the side of my head, "I-I'm hungry. Maybe we should eat before we get on."

Mal let out a light laugh, "Come on, Ben, I don't think that's the smartest idea."

I could feel my palms clamming up.

"Mal's right!" Evie spoke from my right, "If you're really that hungry we can grab a bite after the ride. We wouldn't want you making yourself sick."

Always the voice of logic, she is.

Anxiously licking my chapped lips I kept grasping at straws.

I gestured over to the line of people, "Shouldn't we at least wait until the queue dies down? Just a little bit?"

Immediately after saying that I realized how silly I looked. In perfect synchronization all six friends turned to look at the queue, then back at me.

"It's not that long," Doug said with a shrug.

Carlos chuckled, "We waited longer in line for the dodgem cars than this."

No matter how hard I tried I couldn't swallow the lump in the back of my throat.

"I...I need to use the bathroom," I stuttered before making a beeline out of sight. I didn't wait for anyone to respond or react. I just left.

Face buried deep in my palms, I let out a heavy sigh. I didn't go to the bathroom; not even close. Instead I planted myself on a wooden bench outside the carousel.

The sick feeling in my stomach kept growing. I thought taking a step back would help, but it just made it worse. I found myself digging an endless hole of intrusive thoughts.

How could I be so lame? What's wrong with me? I'm a pathetic excuse for a King.

A comforting voice interrupted my train of thought, "Hey! We thought we might've lost you for good."

Mal always was a sight for sore eyes. She ran her fingers through my hair causing me to lift my head and meet her eyes. Her smile faded as she took a seat beside me.

"Is everything alright?"

"Not exactly," I managed.

She sounded concerned, "Why? What's up?"

I ran my hand over her knee, "...I hate rollercoasters," my voice bled with shame.

Mal let out a laugh and placed her head on my shoulder, "Why didn't you say so?"

I rolled my eyes, "Because it's stupid," I brought my focus onto her, "I mean, even Carlos wasn't afraid to ride it."

Planting a soft kiss on my cheek she spoke, "I don't think it's stupid."

"You don't?"

She giggled, "I think it's pretty cute."

"Please," I exhaled, "Don't tell everyone else..."

Mal made a gesture as if she was zipping her mouth closed. As result a genuine smile grew across my face. I noticed Mal's eyes wandering; clearly taking note of our surroundings.

"I've got an idea," Mal suggested.

"No, it's fine! You guys go ride the rollercoaster," Mal insisted, "We'll meet up with you later."

Jay simply shrugged, "Suit yourselves."

The remainder of our friends rushed off to jump in line for the coaster; leaving the both of us behind.

"Carousel?" Mal laughed.

"Carousel."
