Plot
Death isn't always fun
Angst warning
Nifty awoke with a startled gasp as sat up, confused as she looked around, finding herself in a field of flowers instead of in her room, this place was...strange for her, she never cared for flowers or your typical girly stuff. She reached out and felt a flower, to see if it was real or a dream, and she watched as a few pedals fell off it.
"Weird" she said as she stood up. She looked around a little before picking a direction and walking off, she didnt know how far she had walked or for how long before she started hearing noises off to her side. They was faint at first making her stop and listen, trying to decipher what they was. She stood there listening for a moment and not having much luck before deciding to move towards the noise. Talking off through the field of flowers she headed to her left. Walking up what felt like a little hill before cresting it and looking down with a little gasp. In front of her at the battle stood Alastor, standing tall in the face of...whatever that thing was. Looking at the figure she couldn't really make out anything, The figure was pure black which made it nearly impossible to see against the back sky, only knowing it was there definitely by the white flowers it blocked out..and yet didnt. The figure was almost like a shadow, or a smoke cloud. Nifty had never seen anything like this before. She stared at the figure as Alastor moved and swiped his cane at it, getting a whack and a inhuman like screech from the demon.
"You have failed the previous times to get me...looks like you are going to fail again" Alastor said as he stood there holding his cane in his hand. Though he watched as the figure turned it's attention away from him and off to the side, turning his head to follow he stopped and stared.
"NIFTY! What are you doing here!" He cried out before watching as the figure took off towards her.
"Nifty! RUN!" He shouted out as he took off after the creature.
Nifty let out a little scream before taking off and running like she was told to, running through the field as fast as her little legs could carry her. She could hear the figure running behind her, it's feet hitting the ground and the ruffle of the flowers, but other then that it hardly made a sound, she couldn't get away from it and the next thing she knew her foot had snagged something and she tripped, rolling down a little hill before hitting a boulder at the bottom. She wasted no time as she sat herself up only to be staring at the monster itself. She sat there breathing quickly and almost panicking as it stared back. Nifty watched as the creature opened its mouth before it got sent sideways. Her eye snapped over to Alastor who had just shoulder blocked the creature and sent it tumbling off to the side.
"Pick on someone your own size, someone like me" he said as he took a stance infront of the creature who was standing itself back up. Alastor stood there between it and Nifty, guarding her.
"No matter what happens Nifty, you run and get away from here. Do you understand me" he said in a firm tone while his eyes never left the creature. Nifty watched as the creature lunged at Alastor who also matched the attack, they met in the middle and rolled around some before rolling off the side of the hill, Nifty covered her ears as she heard that shriek from the creature again before everything fell silent. She was told to run and get out of here but she couldn't, her body was frozen in place as she tried to understand what was going on. She sat there for a few minutes as she tried to listen, before slowly standing up and pearing over the edge of the hill side. Looking down at the bottom she froze as she saw Alastor laying there on the ground, and the creature further off to the side. Nifty didnt hesitate as she took off running down the hill towards them, stopping and going to her knees beside him as she put a hand on his shoulder, her hands rested on a wet puddle of blood that soaked through his jacket, he was beat up and bludied from the encounter with the creature.
"Alastor...Al come on..wake up!" She said as she felt tears starting to build up once more. She shook his shoulders some earning a soft groan from the demon. She watched as his eyes slowly opened and looked up at her before he smiled softly.
"Your...safe" he said in a breathless voice. He slowly moved a hand up and rested it ontop of her head as he looked at her, his smile slowly fading away.
"Your safe" he repeated again before letting out another groan as his hand fell back to the ground. Nifty watched as his labored breathing slowly came to a halt, the rise and fall of his chest stopped and the color slowly drained from his red eyes and face.
"N..no" she stuttered out some as she shook his shoulder some.
"Dont leave me!" She pleaded out into the void. Pain and suffering was normally something that Nifty loved almost more then anything, because it made her feel like Alastor, who was her role model, she thrived to be like him and do everything he did, dead bodies and blood never bothered her, but to see Alastor being the one that died, it disturbed her greatly.
She sat there crying for a little as she continued to try and wake him before looking up and spotting a deer standing there.
But not just any deer, it was a rather proud buck standing there with a impressive rack of antlers, it's vibrant red fur coat stood out against the black sky line, it didnt run or anything, merely stood there looking at her. They stared at each other for a few seconds before her attention was pulled back towards Alastor, watching as a glittery cloud of smoke rose up from his body at a slow pace. She watched as it moved over towards the deer and disappeared. Almost as if his soul was being transferred over to the animal. As she sat there watching this happen she fell forward a little and looked down and gasped a bit. Alastors body had disappeared leaving behind only puddles of blood and his cane which was damaged on the end of it. She reached overly and gently grabbed his cane before looking up at the deer which still stood there after the smoke had cleared. She slowly nodded her head at it.
"Th..thank..you...for everything" she said softly, she watched as the deer snorted and lowered its head like a bow before rising back up and prancing off into the darkness, fading away out of her sight.
Her eye slowly fluttered open again as she looked around, realizing that she was back in her room. Sitting up and looking around she quickly looked at her hands, previously covered in blood, but now clean.
"Was..it all a dream?" She asked herself before she tossed off her blanket and left her room, running down the hallway towards the elevator as quickly as she could. The doors opened as the Elevator dinged and Nifty took off towards Alastors room and started knocking on the door which soon opened with a annoyed Alastor.
"What could be so oofph" he said as he was cut off by the little girl jumping up onto his chest and wrapping her arms around his waist.
"Wh..Nifty dear, what's wrong with you" he asked as he stood there with his arms up and away from Nifty, mainly from the surprise contact. Only getting mumbles in response he reached down and tried to remove her, but her grasp was to strong for him to pry off, for as small as she was, she was quite the stout little thing when she chose to be. Alastor wasn't much for touching. He rather despised it when people touched him. Only a select few was every allowed that privilege and one of them happened to be stuck to his waist. Reaching down he put a hand on her back and one on her head, but noticed she flinched a little from the touch on her head.
"Is everything alright?" He asked gently as he stood here, but only receiving mumbles as she wouldn't move her head away from his body.
"I cant understand you when your like this. Can you talk to me at least?" He asked her again, after some gentle coaxing he finally got her to calm down a little and started to get the story from her.
"Oh Nifty...it was only a dream, im right here" he said as he brought her back in for a hug.
"It takes more then a little monster to keep me away from those I cherish" he said with a bit of a smile.
"Can...I stay with you tonight..." She asked with a bit of a mumble again but looking up at him.
"Of course you can" he said as he he carried her over to his bed. Alastor got her situated with her own pillow and blanket before getting back under his blanket.
Early in the morning Charlie was making stops around the hotel to let everyone know that breakfast was ready before she arrived at Alastors room, his door still open from last night.
"Hey Al, Nifty's not in her room, you know whe-oh" Charlie said as she stopped and saw Alastor there with a arm wrapped around Nifty in a protective manner as she was curled up against him a little bit. Thanks to Alastor standing gaurd Nifty had no more nightmares that night.
I do hope you enjoyed this oneshot. I tried to play things a little different. So not sure how everyone will feel about it.
