It had been a long few months. The Pogues were still in Morocco and were still fighting what they could with Groff. John B knew that as much as he had wanted to avenge JJ, he had to be there for Sarah above everything else. They had no way to ease her pain, John B just had to sit with her as she squeezed his hand, writhing in pain almost every night. It had gotten harder and harder with a lack of food and a hungry, pregnant Sarah. It came suddenly one night, the group tucked away in their makeshift tent they had been holding up in for a few weeks now. The feeling had woke Sarah up. She finally had felt her, only a soft flutter against her belly. John B passed out beside her, was completely unaware of what Sarah was experiencing. Before she woke him up, she wanted it to be just them. Sarah and her baby. The baby that John B was so sure was a girl. Sarah smiled, running her hand over the front of her belly, feeling the soft kicks of her baby continue. "Wow, hi there love." She whispered, tapping back as the baby continued. "This makes you...so real." She uttered out, in shock with what her life had become. She would have never imagined being pregnant in the middle of the desert, having missed every check-up appointment deadline. As much as her sixteen year old self would love to admit how curious with adventure she had been, it was stressing her out. Was their baby gonna be okay? Was she even strong enough now to handle being a mother? Her thoughts constantly worried her about what her future would look like if they never could get out of here and make in back home to the OBX. Pulling her back into the present, the kicks started to get stronger, and Sarah could not believe this was real. Her baby was in there, and in a few short months, they would bring a baby into their world.
Deciding she needed John B to talk her down from her ledge, she shook his arm softly. "Hey, John B." She whispered, shaking him a little harder. "Sarah?" He asked groggily, trying to blink away the sleep from his eyes as he sat up a little. "You okay?" He immediately asked, always on edge himself. "I'm okay, but look. Feel this." She said as she took his right hand, placing it on the front of her belly. His eyes widened, finding hers immediately. "That's her?" He asked, feeling the tapping against his hand. "Well, I'm not sure it's a her, but it's our baby, that's for sure." Sarah smiled, placing her hand on top of his, still resting on her belly. "She's real. Wow." John B said, looking down at her belly and continuously feeling the kicks against his hand. "That is the most unreal feeling ever." He said as his features were completely overtaken with shock. "Believe it, she's real." Sarah smiled. "Have you felt this before?" He asked, unable to take his eyes off of her belly. "No, it woke me up for the first time tonight. I tapped back for a little while, and then woke you up." She smiled, just as shocked as he was. "We're having a baby." She smiled as her eyes glazed over. "That thought just hits me sometimes, like what do you mean?" She laughed, glancing around the room making sure they weren't being too loud for the rest of the crew. Everyone still was asleep around them, so the two laid back down on their makeshift bed.
"She's gonna be our North Star. What everything else spins around." John B told her as she lay her head in the crook of his arm. Their hands lay intertwined atop his chest. "John B, we have to get out of here. I'm nervous. This whole thing is not just about us anymore." Sarah told him, looking up into his eyes seriously. "Sar, I know. We have to get you two safe. I know it's already gone on for too long. I'm sorry." He told her, a worried look filling up his features as his gaze was fixed on the ceiling. "It's not your fault, I'm just scared." She told him honestly, following his gaze as she glanced up at the ceiling as well. "I promise we are gonna go home. Get you to the doctor, I'm gonna take care of you, and it's just gonna be you and me." He told her, kissing the side of her head as his way to seal his promise. She nodded, deciding to believe him and give herself some peace of mind. "It's gonna be okay." He whispered, trying to convince her, as well as himself that they would make it home and get to live out the life they had dreamed of. The life with an actual wedding, a house, and the family they had dreamed of having together. They were gonna make it, but little did they know it would still be a few more weeks before they would head home. Sarah would get seasick every day on the ship home, but they would finally make it. They would arrive home to find out they were having a daughter, and she would arrive perfectly healthy. While nothing in their lives had ever felt normal, that was the closest they had ever felt to it.
