It was a peaceful day at the Chateau, usually full of the pogues running through it hurriedly, doors slamming, and voices loud. Today was different, quiet and peaceful, something John B and Sarah didn't take for granted. The sun filtered into their bedroom, the light making John B stir; his arm draped protectively over Sarah's five-month pregnant belly, a reminder of all they had to be grateful for this Thanksgiving.
His eyes fluttered open, turning his head slightly to glance at his wife. She looked breathtaking, her hair sprawled across the pillow, her lips pursed, and her breathing steady as she slept. Waking up next to her was something he'd always be thankful for, but was especially thankful for today, because it was their last Thanksgiving, just the two of them. The next one, the Routledges' would be a family of three, adding their Val gal to their chaos. Valerie Jay, a name they had settled on a week ago, even with Sarah still having four months to go in her pregnancy. Valerie symbolized their first day together, and the day their love story began, where Jay was after JJ, his fearlessness they missed every day.
John B leaned over, moving a fallen strand of hair off of her face as he leaned in. "Hi.." John B whispered, his lips an inch from her pursed ones. She sighed, her lashes fluttering as her eyes opened, immediately meeting his. "Hi there.." She whispered, giggling as she could feel his warm breath on her face. "What a way to wake up." She told him, pursing her lips as a way to ask him to close the gap. Without needing any more of an invitation, he closed the space between them, and his lips found hers instantly.
Their lips molded into one another's, holding promises of tomorrow, and worked in a rhythm that only they could describe as theirs. It didn't feel desperate and needy right now, it felt like love in a way that both of them had never come close to until they'd met each other. John B pulled back slightly, his fingers coming up to trace her jawline. "Happy Thanksgiving, Sar." He whispered as his thumb cupped her face, moving up to trace her cheeks, and the soft curve of her perfect nose. He studied her, traced every part of her face, thanking the divine force that had created her, and how grateful he was they had been so detailed. His hands worked their way down to her bump, a soft flutter beneath his hand reminding him of the small life they had created. A true reminder of everything they had overcome together and could forever be thankful for.
"You are the most gorgeous thing." He told her, his lips finding her neck in a slow worship, moving across her jawline, down to her neck and making his way to her chest. "Ah..ah...ah.." She warned, pulling back slightly, propping herself up to look at him. "Hey there, we aren't going to floor number two. First floor only today, mister. I have to go cook." She told him, remembering she had a long day of cooking ahead of her, before the pogues came over for their annual Thanksgiving dinner. This year, Sarah said she'd host, knowing next year she'd be far too tired with a daughter who'd only be one.
"No funny business?" He asked, pouting a little, pleading with his eyes in an attempt to convince her. "First floor only. Nothing else, sorry, love. Plus, we can't be dirty on a day like today. It Thanksgiving...supposed to be full of family and wholesomeness, not...this." She gestured between them with her finger, glancing down between them. She could feel him, knowing exactly what he wanted, and as much as she wanted to give into him, she had a turkey to cook, and had to do some last-minute tidying up before everyone arrived.
"Tonight, I promise, you can show me just how thankful you are, but I need to get up...get started." She told him, placing one last kiss on his lips, his face leaning in for more in an attempt to savor her, but she pulled back with a giggle. "I love you, John B, let's get up. We can put on some tunes, make this fun!" She smiled, hoisting herself up out of bed, stretching her arms as she yawned. John B didn't budge. He was actively stretching in bed, but not making an indication of wanting to get up to get the day started.
