"Vallie!" Sarah called out to her daughter.
It was 5pm on Christmas Eve, and this was Valerie's 5th Christmas. She was super excited for the events of the evening that were to take place, as the Routledges had started Christmas Eve traditions that she grew very fond of.
Sarah was in the master bathroom as she had just finished up her makeup and curled her hair. They still had to run to the store to get some baking supplies, to finish up the cookies for Santa. John B was laying on the couch, after having just cleaned up the kitchen from their messy brunch. Roxy, their golden retriever was laying in his lap.
The TV had on the Hallmark Channel, a channel John B grew to enjoy, even though he'd never admit it. Sarah had changed him, for the better. At least in her eyes.
Their beautiful Christmas tree illuminated the room as he admired the peacefulness of their cozy house. Val was also in the living room playing with a few of her toys.
"Vallie girl, you should go check in with momma. See what she needs?" John B asked her, trying to avoid Sarah having to come all the way down to the living room.
"Okay, let me go see momma!" She replied back, excitedly.
John B admired how sweet his daughter truly was. He knew they were raising a mini Sarah, and he could not be any more excited about who Val was becoming.
Her little feet padded down the hall on the hardwood, and continued to sound as she ran up the stairs.
Seeing her mom look herself over in the mirror, Val entered the master bath. "Hi mommy." She smiled as Sarah turned to face her daughter.
"Hey baby. Are you ready to run to the grocery store with me?" Sarah asked Val.
A smile crept across Val's face as she realized that they were about to start the nights' traditions. "Yes! I'm ready mommy! Is daddy coming?" She asked her. Val loved when everyone went on 'adventures' (as she called them) as a family.
"Why don't you go ask him, hun." Sarah told her, as she ran out of their room, just as quickly as she had entered it.
"Daddy! Are you going to the store with us?" Val asked John B with a happy smile tugging at her features.
"Of course angel! I wouldn't miss the annual Christmas Eve grocery store run for the world!" He laughed as he picked her up to pepper her with kisses.
"Daddy! Stop! Put me down!" Val squealed with laughter as John B tickled her.
Sarah had grabbed her purse, and walked down the stairs quietly. She admired how caring John B was with Val.
"Oh hi, my love." John B looked up at her as she walked into the living room. "You look beautiful." He whispered as he set Val back on her feet. Blushing slightly, a slight smile spread across her face. Putting on her boots, she reminded John B and Val that they needed to get their shoes on so that they could leave.
"Alright, are we ready for the annual Routledge family Christmas Eve grocery store trip?" John B said as he grabbed the Twinkie's keys from off of the kitchen island.
"That was a tongue twister, but I think we are." Sarah smiled as she pecked his lips and grabbed his spare hand. Walking hand-in-hand to the Twinkie, Val ran out of the house. "Bye Rox." Sarah waved at their golden as she locked the door.
John B opened the sliding door of the Twinkie, allowing Val to hop in, as he buckled her into her carseat. Sarah was given aux since she insisted they had to listen to Christmas music since there was only a day left to enjoy 'it's magic.' John B hadn't complained, as he just enjoyed driving around with his family.
