John B was finishing up at work after a morning spent out in the sun. He was only working until one in the afternoon, because they had to attend Sarah's check-up appointment for their daughter. Checking the clock to see it was just past twelve, John B picked up his phone to call Sarah and check in. She picked up after three rings, breathing heavily. "Hey Sar, what are you up to? How are you feeling today?" He asked her, furrowing his brows as to why she was out of breath on the other end of the phone. "Hey..John..B.." She said in between breaths as she slowed down to walk as she tried to catch her breath. "I'm okay. I'm just on a run." She told him, slowing down so that she could keep up in the conversation. "Sar, why are you on a run right now?" He asked her, concerned that she was pushing herself too hard when it came to maintaining her body image. "Because I'm constantly gaining weight and I want to clear my mind, it helps my mental health. Plus, I get bored when you aren't here, what else am I supposed to do?" She told him honestly, dumping all of her feelings onto him. Her breathing was regaining its normal rate, as he nodded. "Are you sure you aren't pushing yourself too far? You should be able to rest." He told her, only worried about Sarah and their daughter's health. "Look John B, I ran before and have been running for months. We can talk to the doctor about it today if that would give you some peace of mind." She told him, not wanting their conversation to piss her off and lead them into a fight. "Alright." He nodded, not adding anything else onto that conversation. "So, you'll be ready in an hour? I was gonna finish up this run in a few, shower, head over to your work, and we can head to the appointment?" She asked him, making her way back to the Chateau 2.0. "Sounds like a plan. And yes, I'll be ready in an hour." He told her, excited to hear their daughter's heartbeat at the appointment today. "Okay, I'll see you then. I love you!" She called, hearing him utter a soft "I love you" as she hung up the phone. "Your dad is too much, isn't he my love?" She asked, tapping her belly and running her hand along the front of it. Her daughter kicked against her hand, and to Sarah, this was her way of agreeing with her.
Running another half mile, and walking for a cool-down mile, Sarah had finally made it back to their house. Pealing off her sweat filled clothes, she threw them in a pile on the floor of their room, and walked into their master bathroom that was connected to their bedroom. She stopped in the large bathroom mirror before she could make it all the way to the shower. She look at her body, seeing the way that it had changed every part of herself. She really tried to not let it get to her. To not let a natural process that was going to be worth it in the end affect her, but as hard as she always tried, she would always circle back to her insecurities. "Babygirl, I'm sorry. This does stress me out a bit." She frowned, mad at herself for even feeling this way. She ran her hands along the curve of her belly, and looked at the stretch marks that began to form on the side of her hips. A tear slipped out. "No." She whispered, wiping it away as quickly as it fell out. "What if he doesn't want all this?" She cried out, raking her eyes up and down her body as she thought about all of the ways she was different from the girl John B fell in love with. Parts of her tried to tell her that John B would always love her, but the other parts of herself told her that he would never love her like this. She shook her head, knowing that no matter how she felt about her image, she needed to shower and get ready because her daughter needed her to go to her checkup appointment. That was what was most important: her daughter.
She made it through the shower without crying anymore tears, hopped out, and changed into a loose sundress that didn't make her feel too huge. Once she finished her hair and makeup, she nodded, approving how she looked from the waist up in the mirror. It was twelve forty five, and John B's work was ten minutes away from their house, so she headed out in her Volvo and went to go pick him up. She pulled up into the main parking lot and waited for him to come meet her there, sending him a text to let him know where she had parked. Five minutes or so later, he came to meet her as he opened the passenger side door. "Hey, beautiful. Do you want me to drive?" He asked, smiling at her. "Hi! I really don't want to move to that side of the car, so I can just drive. It's like ten minutes up the road it's fine. Thank you for offering though, I appreciate it." She nodded, mirroring his smile and patting the passenger seat for him to slide into. "So how was your day?" She asked him, queuing up a few of her favorite songs to play in the background as they talked. "Not bad. Glad I'm getting out of it early. I know my day can only go up from here." He said, grabbing her spare hand she had resting on the center console, intertwining their fingers. He brought the backside of her righthand up to his lips, kissing the skin there slowly. "How was yours? How long did you run for?" He asked her, glancing over at her as he put their hands back on the center console. "I ran for three miles. Other than that I was just relaxing and hanging out with MiMi." She smiled, catching a glimpse of his eyes before her eyes returned to the road.
