Chapter 18 || Genin grunt work

★★★

Missions went by in a blur of weeding gardens, delivering groceries and finding lost pets. All of the work that was simple, easy, and tedious. work that Ace hadn't realised ninja were often hired to complete. If she had known she could've been hiring ninja to do pretty much anything she wanted this entire time, she would've caused so many more problems for lord third.

But now she was here to do the grunt work instead. For barely any money in return.

Ace sat off to the side of the green field with a small bead of sweat on her brow and her water canteen nearly drained to empty. The four kids had been tasked with sorting out a pest problem for the Mori household. Rabbits had found their way past the fence and made a home in their cabbage patch.

It had taken them an hour to locate all of the burrows nestled into the soft green grass marking each one with a kunai stabbed into the ground, little red ribbons tied to their handles drifting gently in the breeze, standing out vividly against the well kept lawn.

Having combed the entire field, including their other vegetable patches, they could confidently say that there were three burrows that needed to be taken care of.

Whether that meant relocation or more dramatic measures, was still up in he air. Leaving the squad at a standstill.

"If we relocate them they'll just end up coming back" Sasuke argued his case with crossed arms glaring at Naruto who was opposing him.

"Well we can't kill them! They're just cute little bunnies!" Naruto protested, holding up one of the brown patterned rabbits for emphasis.

It's eyes shone brightly and tears welled in along its waterline for full cute effect, as if pleading it case to the dark and moody stranger in front of it. Ace could admit it was definitely cute.

Sasuke glared at the bunny with a strong air of malice. He was ready to be having rabbit stew for dinner. "I'm sure the butcher would think so too" he voiced darkly.

The rabbit screamed in fear, desperately trying to wiggle it's way free from Naruto's grasp to escape Sasuke's cold threats.

"Awe but, I could never kill something so precious." Sakura whimpered off to the side, surrounded by her own family of rabbits, two small babies circling her feet happily.

"Guess that makes her team relocate." Ace drawled non-committaly from her place on the hill, sipping at her water slowly. Her eyes roaming the field for a spot to refill her canteen.

"And what about you Ace?" Sasuke asked with a narrowing of his eyes.

The girl placed a finger against her chin thoughtfully. If she was completely honest, she just wanted whatever was quickest so that they could complete their mission and move on.

The quickest option there would be the butcher route. But that was only if the other two didn't try to go against them, that would for sure draw it out.

With a shrug she answered, "Either is fine." Before turning to look at her sensei, who had been lounging lazily under the shade of a nearby tree since the beginning of the mission, leaving all of the work up to the four kids under his supervision. "What do you say Kakashi sensei?"
