Okay let's do this.

"Anything else?"

I pondered staring at the menu. "Maybe some french fries, and a lemonade please."

"Alrighty that and your oreo milkshake. It's gonna be $13.45."

I hand over my cash and Mira gives me a number. "Thank's Mira, have a good shift."

Zuri likes to sit by the window, so I head upstairs.

Everything's been a blur. After dinner that deadly silence, Marley's gay which was never a surprise really, but she dated Vicky and she has Huntington's Disease.

I shiver at the thought, and now Zuri has a spotty past as well. I can't keep up. We can't keep up.

So this is what it feels like, when life gives you lemons or whatever the hell, I roll my eyes and top of all that, our table is taken.

I sighed. It's only just the two of us, so I pick a table in the corner. Good thing it's by a window. I sit our jackets down and place my things to the side sitting down.

She's been in the restroom for a minute. She usually goes away when she's upset and locks herself in her room.

Just complete disassociation and now I know why she's always thinking of the negative stuff, why she's always so worried.

I can't imagine how scary that is, not feeling safe in the only arms you should feel safe in.

I want to help, but I don't want to pry. I feel so nosy.

First with Marley's Dad, I still don't see how he's a good guy. I feel like Marley should've held him more accountable.

Maybe it's because they both have Huntington's and Marley's early diagnosis puts her life expectancy at risk.

My heart keeps skinning. I really need to talk to Z. I head downstairs, through the crowd of slobs, dancers, and kids. I make my way to the back of the shop, approaching the bathroom and waiting in the hallway that's surprisingly empty.

Emmy's has a movie night for kids every now and then. They are so loud and messy but it's fun. Tonight we we're watching Bridge To Terabithia. Nothing like sharing childhood trauma with other kids.

The ladies door swings open, but it's not Zuri.
"Excuse me?" She whips her head around.

"Can you help me, Is there a girl in there?"

She furrows her brow. "Well it is the ladies room."

"Right, my date. She wanted to freshen up. There was a chick who said some really nasty things."- "Yeah." She interrupts. "We heard, that girl is an asshole, I would've slapped the hell out of her."

I snort. "She is not worth it trust me, you'll end up ringing her neck."

The cool girl nods. "As it should, she made your girl cry stall three."

She massages her temple. "My mom used to beat me, blamed me for my dad leaving."

I swallowed. "I'm sorry."

"It's cool kid, life gives you lemons. Just keep her safe and never harm her deliberately or jokingly." She pats my shoulder and walks away swaying.

I was going to head in but doubt started to seep in so I texted Mars.

R: 911!!

M: What happened??

R: Vicky ambushed us at Emmy's.

M: That slut crashed pizza night. :/

R: She pretty much threw herself at me, and when I declined she started yelling. about Zuri and her relationship with her father. The whole store heard!!

M: What the actual hell. I was going home but
I'm close to Emmy's see you in a minute.

R: Thanks Mars, I don't know what to say to her.

M: Just be you.

R: What does that even mean. :|

M: Stop acting like you're not in love, just do what you always do, be there. I'm on my way.

R: Alright hurry please.
