CHAPTER THREE--
"Hey, princess." Julie looks up when she hears Luke's voice and rolls her eyes, returning her attention back to her phone. "I don't think your boss would appreciate you sneaking your phone while you're working," he teases once he reaches her register and notices her phone under the counter.
"Shut up, Luke," she mumbles, locking it and sliding it in the back pocket of her jeans. "You can't just stand here if you're not buying anything," she smiles and he chuckles, pulling out his wallet.
"Alright, babe, what do you want?" She scoffs, not answering him, and quickly checks the time. "You can't ignore me when I'm offering to buy you something," he laughs and she looks up to meet his eyes.
"I don't want you buying me anything. You can stay, I guess, but if my boss comes, act like you're asking me a question or something," she shrugs, knowing she'll regret not sending him off.
"I've actually got a question for you, Juliette." His lips pull into a smirk and she huffs out an annoyed breath.
"It's Julie, do not call me Juliette," she orders and his smirk turns into an amused smile.
"Juliette is such a pretty name, though," he defends, walking around the counter to stand next to her.
"You can't come over here, Luke, stop." She instantly pushes him away and he laughs, raising his hands in defense. "What's your question?"
"You should come over to mine tonight," he suggests with a sly smile.
"Okay, um, first, that wasn't a question, and second, why the hell would I go to your house? I barely know you." She looks away from Luke when a mother and her daughter walk into her lane. "Hold on," she quietly tells him and he nods, taking a few steps away from her. She quickly helps the woman - her daughter giggling about her red hair - and gestures for Luke to come back which he does immediately.
"So, was that a yes?" He smirks, leaning against the counter. Julie laughs sarcastically while quickly licking her bottom lip.
"Did that seem like a yes to you?" She rolls her eyes. "And I've got a question for you." When he raises his eyebrows and nods for her to continue, she does, "What was up with you at the record label? When you told me you were Luke Hemmings, did that actually mean something?" She questions, a hint of sarcasm in her voice. She already knew the answer because as soon as the boys left, Mae looked up Luke's name and figured out he was actually in a very popular band. And that he was also a pretty terrible person based on the many, many articles on him at bars and at clubs with girl after girl. Julie had already guessed he was a player of some sorts by the way he carried himself and acted towards her, but this was a level up from what she'd thought.
"If it didn't mean anything, would I have said it?" Julie resists the urge to roll her eyes as she looks around for her boss before taking out her phone.
"Should I just look you up?" She taunts, waving her phone back and forth. When Luke doesn't say anything she shrugs and unlocks her phone, going to the Safari app.
"Okay, I didn't think you'd actually do it." He quickly takes the phone out of her hand and she lets out a quiet giggle at him. He starts typing on her phone and she scrunches her eyebrows in confusion.
"What are you doing?" She tries to grab it but he laughs and takes a few steps away from her.
"Here you go, princess," he grins, handing her the white phone. She snatches it out of his hands, narrowing her eyes at him before looking back down at it to see what he had done.
