CHAPTER THIRTY SIX
--
"Are you sure your mom doesn't mind me coming?' Julie randomly speaks up as the two of them lay on Luke's bed the night before they had to leave. "I don't wanna intrude."
"She's the one who asked me to invite you, princess," he chuckles quietly as she climbs on top of him, resting her head on his chest.
"But I –"
"Do you not want to go anymore?" He questions, and Julie picks up on the hurt tone evident in his voice.
"No, no, it's not that," she assures him quickly, lightly kissing his bare chest. "I just-" She sighs, not wanting to continue, "I don't want your family to not like me." Her lips pull into a small pout and she feels like she sounds whiny.
"Babe," he laughs quietly and she huffs out a breath. "They're gonna love you. I don't see how they couldn't." He shrugs, running his fingers up and down her back to comfort her as she smiles lightly against his skin.
"I'm sorry," she breathes. "I'm just a little nervous."
"You've got nothing to worry about," he promises quietly, looking up at her when she pushes herself up on her elbows and tries his best to find her hazel eyes in the almost completely dark room.
"I love you," she almost whispers, nudging her nose against his. She doesn't give him a chance to say anything back before she's pushing her lips against his desperately in an attempt to show her feelings through her kiss. She was complete putty in his hands and she knew he could absolutely break her if he ever chose to. The thought of losing him terrified her, but she pushes her fears away as Luke responds to the kiss, tightening his grip on her.
"Are you okay?" He manages to ask, trying to catch his breath when she pulls away and sits back up. She hums, lightly dragging her nails up and down his chest. "Are you sure? You seem a little –"
"Luke, I'm fine," she tells him honestly and he can just barely see the smile on her lips, making him absentmindedly smile as well. "Am I not allowed to kiss you?" She questions teasingly.
"You've never kissed me like that." He licks his lips and shrugs, still slightly breathless. "And I love you, too." She lets a quiet laugh escape through her lips, leaning back down so her head rests in the crook of his neck.
"You wanna hear something stupidly cheesy?" She mumbles against his skin, one of her hands coming up to rest on his other shoulder.
"Mhm," he hums with a smile, gripping her hips gently.
"I'm so glad you were an asshole and needed condoms and beer on a Tuesday night," she tells him shyly, happy he can't see the blush on her cheeks, "and even though I hated you at the time, I'm glad you kept coming back trying to get me in bed," she giggles quietly, hearing his soft chuckle.
"Having sex with you stopped being my goal, like, the third time I showed up because I figured I had no chance with you," he admits and she pushes herself back up on her elbows again to look at him in confusion.
"What was your goal?" Her head cocks to the side and even though Luke can't see her, he can picture her eyebrows scrunched in confusion.
"I don't know," he shrugs, telling her the truth. "I just found myself going back, hoping you were there." Julie can't fight the smile pulling at her lips and the butterflies in her stomach.
"You're a loser," she laughs, bringing her lips across Luke's neck.
"But I'm your loser." She pecks his lips lightly, shaking her head. "We should probably get some sleep, it's almost two."
"I'm not tired," she pouts against his skin and he laughs quietly, bringing her head up to meet their lips together again. He drags his hands up under her shirt and she runs her fingers through his already messy hair as their lips continue to move against each other at a quick pace. He rolls them over making her gasp in surprise and uses the opportunity to slip his tongue in her mouth. "What happened to going to sleep?" She breathes, smiling lightly as Luke drags his lips along her jawline and down to her neck.
"You said you weren't tired," he muses, sucking at the skin at the base of her neck, leaving a very light mark.
"Not a good way to tire me out." She licks her lips as Luke slides her – his – shirt off of her, almost moaning at the sight of his girlfriend without a bra on.
"Why aren't you wearing a bra?" He asks almost breathlessly, leaning down to move his lips along the smooth skin.
"I never do when I go to bed," she tells him quietly, letting out a small moan at the feeling of Luke's lips on her skin.
"You're so beautiful," he mumbles sincerely, pushing himself back up to kiss her. She hums against his lips, cupping his cheeks gently. "I love you," he tells her again while she moves her hands down to push off his pants.
"I love you too," she cries out quietly when Luke grinds down against her. "So much." She can hear Luke's breathing slow down as he pulls her underwear down her legs, kissing from her lower stomach up to peck her lips gently. "Condom, babe," she reminds him after he's got his boxers off. He quickly leans over to grab one out of his nightstand. She gives him one more kiss before letting him take her.
...
"Luke," Julie calls for her boyfriend for the third time in fifteen minutes from his living room. When he doesn't respond, she huffs quietly and decides to go get to his room to get him. "What are you doing?" She crosses her arms over her chest when she sees him sitting at the foot of his bed watching whatever TV show was playing on the screen, his suitcase still empty. "We were supposed to leave, like, half an hour ago." Luke looks up at his girlfriend with an innocent grin.
"Sorry, baby." She rolls her eyes because she knows he's not really sorry. "Come watch this with me, it's funny."
"I'm gonna finish packing for you," she decides, grabbing a few shirts and pairs of jeans. She tosses them on his bed before folding each one and dropping them in his bag.
"Babe, you don't need to pack for me," he sighs, standing from his bed and taking the shirt from her hands.
"Well, you wouldn't do it." She sticks her tongue out at him and he smiles back down at her. "You told your mom we'd be there by five and now we're gonna be late." Her lips pull into a pout and he leans down to kiss her gently.
"She probably expects me to be late, I'm always late." He shrugs, finishing with his clothes and making his way to the bathroom. She smiles in amusement and sits on the edge of his bed, waiting for him to finish. He comes out with a few toiletries and drops them in the suitcase, zipping it shut. "Now we may leave, your highness," he says teasingly and she rolls her eyes again, smiling this time. "Ooh, my brother just texted me asking if we're almost there," Luke mumbles, looking down at his phone as the two of them walk down to his car. "Should I lie and say we are?"
"And when we don't show up for another forty-five minutes, I think he'll realize you were lying, babe," Julie laughs and Luke takes her bag, putting both his and hers in the backseat.
"You're right," he nods, opening Julie's door. "I'll just ignore him and tell him I didn't see the text because I am a responsible driver." He grins and she shakes her head, leaning forward to kiss him lightly before pushing him away and shutting her door.
