CHAPTER THIRTY TWO

--

Julie wakes up the following morning half on top of Luke, taking a moment to remember the previous night with a smile on her face before realizing she had to get to class. "Shit," she pouts against his skin, sliding away from him as slowly as she could to keep him from waking up.

She quickly checks the time on her phone and changes into one of Luke's shirts and a pair of leggings before pulling her hair up into a ponytail. "Luke," she whispers, shaking his body to wake him up. He groans and turns away from her. She giggles and climbs on top of him making him groan again louder and look up at her tiredly.

"Why are you dressed?" He pouts.

"I've gotta go," she tells him, leaning down to gently peck his lips. "I have class."

"No," he whines, tugging her body back down to lay down. "Can't you just skip one day?" He brushes his lips against her ear and she shivers.

"I have to go," she breathes, turning around to kiss him quickly again. "I'll come back afterwards." She smiles at him.

"We're busy all afternoon," he pouts against her cheek. "I won't be back until, like, ten."

"You suck." She sticks her tongue out at him, sliding away from him and off the bed.

"Are you mad at me?" He questions, sitting up.

"No," she laughs with a smile. "I really have to go now or I'll be late." She leans to give him one more kiss. "I love you." Luke smiles at his girlfriend, returning the words before she walks out.

...

"I have something to tell you," Mae tells Julie as the two of them sit on Mae's bed, Julie finishing up painting Mae's nails.

"What's up?" Julie looks up at her best friend waiting for her to continue.

"Matthew kissed me yesterday," she smiles shyly and Julie looks at her in surprise. "And he asked me on a date," she continues, a light blush on her cheeks

"Seriously?" Julie gapes, slowly smiling. "Wait, what about Kyle?" She stops smiling and cocks her head in confusion.

"We stopped going out like a week or so ago." Mae shrugs.

"What? Why didn't you tell me?" Julie frowns as Mae blows on her now pale pink nails.

"You've been with Luke, like, every day for the past few weeks." Julie can't decipher the tone of Mae's voice and she raises an eyebrow, closing the nail polish.

"Are you mad?"

"I'm not mad," she answers with another shrug. "I just don't like that you've been spending so much time with him. I don't like your relationship." Julie rolls her eyes at her best friend, running her hand through her hair.

"Mae, would you please get over whatever you have against Luke," she huffs.

"The thing I have against Luke is the fact that he's broken your heart multiple times and it's only a matter of time before he does it again, Julie!" She yells in frustration, standing from her bed as Julie does the same. "As your best friend, I want to keep you from dating guys like Luke and-"

"Spencer?" Julie finishes, crossing her arms over her chest. "You think he's like Spencer." As soon as her eyes start watering and her bottom lip starts to quiver, Mae immediately feels guilty.
