CHAPTER THIRTY THREE
--
Luke gets to Julie's house within twenty minutes and walks into Julie's room to see her finishing a cup of wine and Noah laying half asleep on the other side of her bed. "I don't think you need any more wine, princess," Luke chuckles, taking the cup from her and she pouts before looking up at him and smiling.
"I missed you today." Her words slur together just slightly and he smiles, leaning down and pecking her lips lightly. "Noah, you can stay here so you don't have to-" She starts to offer as she stands up but she looks over and notices him already asleep. "Never mind," she giggles.
"Are you ready to go?" Luke asks, grabbing her hand and lacing their fingers together. Julie hums with a nod and grabs her phone as Luke gently tugs her out of the room. "So, why were you getting drunk? Is everything okay?" He glances over at her in concern after they've gotten in the car before pulling out of the parking space.
"No," she pouts, "Mae made me think-" she suddenly stops, realizing it's probably not the best idea to finish her sentence, and leans her head against the window.
"Made you think what?" He looks over at her with a raised eyebrow. She licks her lips and lets out a breath, trying to stop herself from saying anything.
"You were cheating, or going to," she spills. "Or going to dump me because we've had sex." When she finishes, Luke doesn't say anything and Julie doesn't look at him, afraid to see his face. The entire car ride is silent and the combination of the thought of their relationship ending and being drunk off her ass makes Julie starts to silently cry to herself.
The second Luke parks, she quickly stumbles out of the car and practically runs to his front door, embarrassed. After realizing that the door was locked, she cries harder, this time in frustration. And still because she's too drunk to control herself. Luke comes up behind her and unlocks the door, letting her walk in before he does.
"Look, Luke, I'm-" He cuts her off, pushing her against the door with his hands cupping her damp cheeks, and kisses her deeply. Her eyes widen in surprise for a moment before she kisses him back, grabbing the bottom of his shirt to pull him closer. "What was that for?" She questions softly after he just barely pulls away.
"Because you're an idiot," he answers, taking a step away from her and grabbing one of her hands. "But also because I love you." She blushes and looks down at their hands.
"You're a cheeseball," she mumbles shyly.
"Come on, we need to talk." He pulls her hand to take her to his room but she whines and tries to tug him back.
"That doesn't sound good, just go back to being a cheeseball." She pouts and Luke smiles at her, leaning down to lightly peck her lips.
"It's not what you think, just come on." She sighs and lets him take him to his room. "Tell me what happened with Mae." He sits against the headboard of the bed and she climbs into his lap, curling into his side.
"She wants me to break up with you because she thinks you're gonna be like Spencer." She really wishes she would shut up but she continues anyway, "She said you're gonna cheat on me, if you weren't already doing it today while you were 'working' with the boys," she brings one of her hands up to use quotations when she says 'working', "and if it wasn't that, then you were gonna dump me because we already had sex and that's all you wanted from me. Like Spencer." Now she's really mad at herself for not shutting up and telling him about her ex.
