The skies were clear.
Not magically cleared, not storm-ripped or windblown. Just... clear. Gentle. Like even the clouds had agreed to give them peace for one blessed day.
Donghyuck stood in front of the mirror, nervously adjusting his collar for the fifth time. His hands were still faintly shaking—not from fear, not from trauma.
From the magnitude of it all.
Mark was about to become king.
He was about to stand beside him. Not as a prisoner of the Isle. Not as Maleficent's son. But as someone loved. Someone chosen.
---
In the castle halls, guests whispered excitedly. The event had been reset, the decorations restored, the stained glass repaired. But nothing felt the same.
It felt more.
Like the kingdom had been cracked open and the light was flooding in for the first time in generations.
---
The garden ceremony began at golden hour. The four Isle kids—Hyuck, Jeno, Sungchan, and Jisung—stood together in full regalia.
Jeno looked sharp, surprisingly formal until he cracked a wink at a royal knight and immediately ruined the illusion.
Sungchan practically glowed. Not from magic, but from the amount of highlighter he'd sneakily borrowed from Chenle’s kit.
Jisung looked more awkward, tugging at the stiff fabric of his tunic, but Chenle whispered something in his ear that made him blush and relax all at once.
And then... the trumpets sounded.
Violinists began a sweeping melody.
All turned to the stone steps.
Mark stood at the top, dressed in pure white and soft gold, the sun hitting him like a halo had been personally airbrushed on. His parents stood behind him, regal and glowing.
But his eyes? Only on Hyuck.
He walked forward, each step deliberate, confident—but when he reached Hyuck, he paused.
Held out his hand.
Donghyuck took it without hesitation.
And together, arm-in-arm, they entered the grand hall.
---
Everyone rose as they approached the platform. The stained glass behind them shimmered with stories of the past—heroes, beasts, magic, redemption.
Mark knelt before his parents and the Fairy Godmother, who now had his hair properly pinned and a band-aid on the cheek that had a little smiling star on it.
Fairy Godmother lifted the wand.
His voice was soft, melodic. “By the binding of light, of heart, of legacy—you shall take on this title not as a burden, but a bond to your people.”
Kun tapped his shoulder once with the wand. A pulse of magic shimmered around him. Gold dust glowed along the floor.
Adam stepped forward, crown in hand. Heavy. Brilliant.
He looked at his son—not just with pride, but with awe.
“You are no longer a prince,” he said, placing the crown gently on Mark’s head. “You are king. And a king... chooses who stands beside him.”
Everyone turned to Donghyuck.
Mark did too.
“I choose you,” he whispered, not for show, not for tradition. “Because I believe in the goodness you gave yourself when no one else would.”
Hyuck blinked back tears. “I choose you too,” he murmured, barely able to speak.
Applause erupted.
---
As they turned to the crowd, arms linked, Mark raised his voice.
“And I make one more declaration as king—Jeno. Jisung. Donghyuck. Sungchan. Sons of the Isle. You are now—officially—citizens of Auradon.”
Jeno let out a whoop that absolutely ruined the solemnity and Jaemin grabbed him into a spinning hug.
Chenle was crying.
So was Belle.
So was the Fairy Godmother (but he blamed it on the glitter in his eyes).
---
Donghyuck barely noticed the rest—the toasts, the cheers, the music swelling from the balconies.
All he knew was that, for the first time...
He wasn't just someone born from darkness.
He was someone who had earned the light.
---
And just as the crowd surged toward the food—
Jisung: “So… does this mean we have to bow to Mark now or—?”
Jeno: “I’m bowing for the cake.”
Jaemin: “I'm bowing for the drama.”
Chenle: “I’m bowing because someone stepped on my foot.”
---
Cue the feast. Cue the love.
And cue the very first night of a kingdom ruled not just by legacy—
But by choice.
