Donghyuck awoke to the warmth of sunlight kissing his cheek—but no warmth of arms around his waist.
No heartbeat against his back.
No Mark.
His lashes fluttered open, blinking against the light. For a moment, he just lay there, staring up at the silky canopy above the royal bed, letting the calm crash in waves over his sea of confusion.
Was it all a dream?
No… he wouldn’t leave like that. Not after last night.
But as he rolled over—heart slightly aching—he saw it.
A folded note, placed neatly on the pillow, smelling faintly of Mark’s cologne and a hint of cinnamon.
"To my love, my dragonheart,"
You’re still asleep, and it’s probably criminal how good you look like that, wrapped in our sheets.
I couldn’t stop thinking about last night. About your bravery, your fire, the way you stared down your mother and never flinched. You were unstoppable. Beautiful. And somehow still blushing at my compliments.
You saved our kingdom. You saved me.
I’ve never felt more proud, or more in love.
I’m sorry I had to run off—sudden meeting called by my parents. I know, very rude of them.
But I’ve got plans for today. Plans that start with you putting on what I left you.
Trust me, baby… you’re going to look delicious. 😏
P.S. I made sure the buttons on the shirt were easy to rip off. Just in case. ;)
Donghyuck clutched the letter to his chest with a quiet groan.
“Stupid, sweet, insanely hot king…”
His eyes landed on the little bundle of clothes folded on the chair. A soft linen shirt in a deep emerald green, fitted slacks, and a pair of boots that looked like they'd been polished by fairies.
He dressed slowly, eyes still heavy with sleep, heart floating somewhere between flustered and thrilled.
As he made his way down the hallway, he stopped at Jeno’s door to knock—
“WOAH!”
Chenle’s voice startled him from behind, full of sunshine and unfiltered glee.
“You look great, Hyuck! Mark's got some good taste.”
Donghyuck turned with a smirk. “Is that sarcasm or a compliment?”
“It’s jealousy,” Chenle said with a wink. “Now come on, let’s get you where you’re supposed to be.”
They stepped inside the room. Jeno was adjusting his jacket in the mirror while Jaemin lounged on the bed.
“Morning, our badass dragon,” Jaemin drawled with a teasing grin. “You sleep well after—you know—saving everyone and also destroying your boyfriend emotionally and physically?”
Donghyuck’s ears turned red. “You’re all ridiculous.”
“Accurate,” Jeno grinned. “But we’re dressed ridiculously, too. Any idea what’s happening?”
Before anyone could theorize too much, Chenle’s phone buzzed.
“Oop—Fairy Godmother,” he said. “I’ve gotta bounce. Something about enchanted permits. Be right back!”
Just then, Jisung stepped in, eyes still puffy from sleep. “Why is everyone dressed like a walking magazine cover?”
“That’s our question!” Donghyuck replied.
From down the hallway, Sungchan emerged, hair slicked back, outfit elegant but chill. “Okay what is going on—why do we all look like we’re going to a photoshoot on a magic yacht?”
Everyone stared at each other.
“Why are you dressed like that?”
“No, why are you dressed like that?”
“Who organized a secret wedding and didn’t tell us?”
The five of them, still slightly bewildered and fully hungry, made their way down to the cafeteria.
But…
It was empty.
No food. No noise. Not even the enchanted pancake spatula was floating around.
“Okay, so… either this is a murder mystery party, or someone forgot to cook,” Jisung said.
Jaemin, ever the curious one, perked up at the sound of faint laughter and music from a distance.
“You hear that? C’mon—we follow the good vibes. Maybe they have food.”
They crept through a corridor, turned the corner—
And suddenly, lights flashed.
Music blasted. Confetti exploded into the air.
“SURPRIIIIIIISE!!!”
Donghyuck flinched, hands flying up, as everyone jumped out with smiles and cheers.
At the front stood Mark and Chenle, both beaming, arms thrown up like champions at a karaoke contest.
Tables were set up with snacks, drinks, sweets shaped like dragons and lamps and apples. Bean bags dotted the grass. A little game area was surrounded by enchanted cards, bouncing dice, and music speakers shaped like singing birds.
Fairies zipped through the trees. A couple classmates waved from behind cake trays. One or two small woodland creatures were helping set up a round of enchanted limbo.
“What—what is this?” Donghyuck asked, stunned.
Jaemin threw an arm around Jeno’s shoulders.
“We just surprised your schemey asses,” he laughed. “And it was all Chenle’s idea!”
The four turned to look at him—half scandalized, half melting.
Chenle stood with his hands on his hips like the mastermind he was. “I thought you guys deserved a proper Auradon welcome. Not just drama and dragons.”
One by one, they approached him.
Donghyuck pulled him into a brief but tight hug.
Jeno ruffled his hair, grinning.
Jaemin cupped his cheeks dramatically and kissed his forehead.
Sungchan gave him a little bow and a fist bump.
Then it was Jisung’s turn.
He stepped forward, eyes soft and wide.
And before Chenle could even raise his arms—
Jisung leaned in.
Placed his hands on Chenle’s waist.
And kissed him.
Right there.
In front of everyone.
The party fell into hushed surprise and delighted squeals. A nearby fairy clapped excitedly. Jaemin's jaw dropped. Donghyuck let out an audible gasp.
Jisung pulled back slowly, cheeks flushed but gaze steady.
Chenle stared at him for a heartbeat—
And then smiled.
