The wand was gone.
And the room—the glorious grand hall meant for celebration—plunged into chaos.
A rumble split the silence. The chandeliers trembled. The stained glass shattered into a mosaic of horror as a dark shadow swept across the ceiling.
Thud... thud... thud.
The air cracked like lightning.
And then—
The roof exploded.
Shrieks rang out. Debris flew. Wind and dust swallowed everything.
And in the middle of it all, descending like a nightmare reborn, was her.
The black dragon.
Wings vast as the horizon. Scales darker than the abyss. Eyes—brilliant, poisonous green—locked onto the platform like prey.
She let out a roar that shook the kingdom to its roots. Maleficent had arrived.
---
Screams. Spells. Shields.
Guards rushed forward, casting protection enchantments. Fairies zipped like lightning bolts. Royal children huddled behind pillars. Kings and queens held each other in sheer disbelief.
And the hooded figure, now exposed—his cloak torn back by the gust—stood tall and unflinching.
“Jungwoo?” Jeno breathed, stunned.
The once-charming, smiling face was cold now. Tight. Unforgiving.
“She deserves her throne,” Jungwoo growled. “And the Isle deserves revenge.”
---
But amidst the chaos, amidst the rubble and flame, Donghyuck stood still.
His fists clenched.
Eyes locked on the monster in the sky.
The same monster who raised him. Trained him. Feared him. Hurt him.
“Hyuck,” Mark whispered, grasping his hand. “Don’t—”
But he was already moving.
He stepped onto the platform, the dragon above him snarling, casting shadows over his face. The crowd backed away.
He looked up—and for once, Maleficent didn’t see her son.
She saw her equal.
“I’m not afraid of you,” Donghyuck called, voice ringing out with unnatural calm.
The dragon shrieked in response, fire curling between her teeth.
“Then burn,” she hissed.
She dived.
And Donghyuck—
Transformed.
A brilliant purple light exploded around him. Wings unfurled from his back, stretching wide and glittering with starlight. His body lengthened, scales forming in smooth ribbons down his spine. His eyes turned molten gold. The air crackled around him like a thousand suns colliding.
He was a dragon.
Not a monster.
Not a copy.
His own.
Gasps echoed. Even Maleficent faltered.
Then—
They collided in the sky.
---
The battle raged above the hall. Fire against fire. Shadow against light.
Mark watched, helpless, his hands glowing with protective magic, but unable to interfere. The others stood frozen in awe and fear.
The purple dragon looped around the black one, swift and graceful. He dodged her flames, countering with bursts of violet light that rattled the clouds.
But Maleficent was fierce. Her fury was endless.
“YOU BETRAYED ME!” she screamed mid-flight.
“I BROKE FREE!” Hyuck roared back.
They clashed mid-air, jaws locked, claws tearing. The crowd below had stopped screaming—they were simply watching. Witnessing.
One final crash sent both spiraling.
And then—
Donghyuck rose above.
His wings stretched wide.
He pulled in deep breath, summoning everything.
And let out a final roar—
Blazing, bright, burning with love, anger, defiance, hope—
The blast hit Maleficent dead on.
The black dragon shrieked one last time—
And began to shrink.
Her body twisted, her wings crumpled, her voice faded to a screech—
Until all that was left...
Was a tiny, palm-sized dragon. Still black, but no longer terrifying.
Donghyuck, panting, descended to the floor in his human form, trembling and bruised.
He walked over, knelt down, and picked up the shrunken version of his mother.
She hissed softly, but her power was gone.
He stared at her.
And said, softly, “I still don’t hate you. But you won’t hurt anyone again.”
---
The hall was silent.
Then, a single clap.
From Jaemin.
Then Jeno.
Then all at once—cheers, applause, pure chaotic celebration.
Chenle burst into laughter.
Jisung stood slack-jawed. “Did he just—turn into a dragon?!”
Mark rushed to Donghyuck, grabbing his face in his hands. “Are you okay?”
Hyuck grinned, exhaustion dancing in his eyes.
“I just saved your coronation. I better be getting a crown too.”
Mark pulled him into a kiss.
“Or at least a very fancy cake,” Chenle shouted from across the hall.
