A soft golden light spilled through the tall windows, gently waking the purple-haired boy from dreams still tingling on his skin.
He blinked slowly, taking in the warmth of the room—lavish yet calm—and his mind fluttered back to the day before. A blush bloomed across his cheeks as memories danced, a foolish, giddy smile curling his lips.
Alone in the vast room, he wondered if Mark was also a love-struck fool this morning, lost in their shared magic. His eyes caught sight of a note resting on the other nightstand. Curious, he reached for it and read:
Dear Hyuckie,
I hope you slept well, because I slept amazing. I love sleeping next to you. I can't wait to do this every night, and wake up to your face every morning. This morning, I thought I was going to have a heart attack from the beauty I saw first thing.
I wanted to let you know I have some meetings today, so I left early—I didn’t want to wake you. You looked so peaceful, and I figured you should rest after yesterday.
Whenever you’re ready, press the button next to this note—someone will bring you breakfast and fresh clothes. You can do whatever you want today. No classes, but lunch in the court is served daily, so I’ll find you then to at least say hi. I don’t think I could live without seeing you for over ten hours.
Even now, as this letter writes itself, I wish I could smother you in kisses and hugs.
I don’t know how long my meetings will last, but I’ll find a way to spend time with you.
I love you, beautiful.
P.S.—You snore. It’s adorable.
Donghyuck smiled so wide he thought his face might crack. He tossed the note aside and dramatically flopped back onto the bed.
Hyuck (breathless, laughing): "Fuck me, I’m in love."
He thought: This is too good to be real. A man like Mark loving him? In love with him? Meeting the parents, feeling this happiness—it was like stepping into a dream woven with gold and stardust.
But then, a sharp thought pierced through the haze.
His mother.
How could he forget the plan? How could this, of all things, be the best thing to happen to him? Was he really going to stay and ignore the weight of her demands?
All his life, he’d chased her approval, run her errands like a ghost in her shadow—her personal pawn. His fury simmered and boiled over. No more.
This was his last call.
He was one hundred thousand percent sure. This—this happiness, this warmth—was what he wanted. To be cared for, to care back without judgment. To be human. To feel.
He sat up, drew a deep breath, wiped away tears he hadn’t even realized he shed. He pressed the button for breakfast, determination swelling in his chest.
He thought of his family—not blood, but brothers: Jeno, Sungchan, Jisung, Jaemin and Chenle. The light in his life who showed him he wasn’t alone, who whispered to his heart that feeling was strength.
Right now, breakfast was the priority.
But soon? Soon he’d sprint to them and wrap every single one in a hug fierce enough to shake the stars.
