Xander POV

Tristan is wonderful, because tonight I'm supposed to meet his father. I think that this is the biggest thing he's ever done for... us because I know that his dad means a lot to him. I'm really nervous about meeting him honestly.

"Are you sure you want me to meet him? I mean this is serious and I know that he's all you have and-"

"Babe , I want you to meet him, you mean a lot to me and I want him to know the girl that's kept me busy and, out of trouble." we laugh and it lightened the mood. Although he made me feel at ease, I was still worried, I want to make a good impression.

Maybe I should change my clothes, maybe I should change my hair style.... While I'm freaking out I feel lips on mine. Tristan pulls back and says  "Stop. Stressing. Out." He rounds my shoulders. I nod and we park and get out of the car.

As we walk up to the door, he grabs my hand and squeezes. Reassuring me that everything was fine.

I hope he's right.

We walk onto the porch and I watch as Tris unlocks the door.
Don't freak out. Control your breathing. Breath, did I brush my teeth?

I checked my breath as we walked through the door.

I'm good, whew

We walked through the front door all was quiet except for the TV that was playing in the family room.

I realized that I'd never been to Tristan's house before. This was a big step, not only was I meeting his father but I was hoping that his father would accept me, being that I was a different race.

As we turn the corner of his house I was met with a man that look just like Tristan only older. He laid on the couch and as we enter the room he looked up slightly and smiled. Tristan turn to me introduced us. Tristan spoke up and said

"Dad this is Xander." He looks over at me and says "It's very nice to meet you young lady my son has talked so fondly of you and I have been waiting to meet you.''

''I was wondering when I was going to meet the woman who get my son out of trouble it is beautiful to know that you keeping him out of trouble. I'd like to thank you for that I know he may not be the easiest person to get along with but thank you."

I blushed, no one's ever said anything like that to me before.
I wasn't so nervous after that.

Tristan helped his father out of the lazy boy chair, and assisted him into the dining room where the table was already set and the food had already been set out.

"The food looks good" Mr. Kane said
"I slaved over a hot stove for 3 hours it won't be anything short of amazing."
I laughed and sat down next to his father.

"I am very happy to meet you young lady, what was your name?"

"Xander, it's a pleasure to finally meet you sir."

"You're my son's new babysitter?"

I turn and look at him, "no sir, Tris and I are dating"

He looks away from me confused.
"How he's only 14 years old, not nearly old enough for a mature woman as yourself"

What?! Tristan hadn't told me his father's condition, it must be short term memory loss, but I'm not entirely sure.

"Nice weather we're having?" Mr. Kane asks
"Lovely" Tris answers coming back in to the dining room.

As Tristan sat down next to me I was still trying to understand what was going on?

"Tris can I see you in the kitchen for a moment?" he nods and we both get up and walk towards the kitchen door.

"I feel like I know nothing about your father's illness and I don't want to say the wrong thing. What does he suffer from? "I didn't want to beat around the bush knowing his father was is the next room.

''He suffers from dementia. And it seems to be getting worse with each day.'' Tristan looks down and he sniffs and and that point I know that he's crying

''Look I'm sorry I shouldn't have asked...''

''No. You had a right to know, I'm sorry I didn't tell you before I just... I don't know I didn't want you to treat him like he's not a normal man. He forgets who I am sometimes, he's almost completely forgotten his passed. He still remembers my mother though, very vividly''

I walk up to him and embrace him, and not the kind of embrace that means oh you poor thing. No this was a hug because I couldn't imagine having to watch a parent suffer with this.

''Thank you for being there for me Xan.'' He looks into my eyes and I know that it's sincere

''I'll always be here for you Tris I care about you so much. I want you to know, I will always be here don't doubt that''

And with that I peck his lips and hold his hand and lead him back into the dining room.
And we sit with his father and enjoy the rest of our dinner.
