"Austin, someone wants to meet you" Alex said with the loud music still playing. People were partying like if it were 1 am when it was already early morning and you could see the sun begin to rise at the far distance making the building of the city look like a landscape painting. I got up and put down my beer leaving Robert and Zach with some girls. I walked with him and he lead me to a more quiet and private room, the lights dimmer and more people. "By the way....congrats on the win. I knew you could beat his ass." I chuckled making my stomach hurt but it was worth it. I beat the guy and my anger was taken away a bit... And I got three grand which isn't bad. "He looks intimidating....but he's chill. I know you'll like him." He said giving me a pat on the back. I walked in alone and a guy was sitting in a couch that was low almost touching the floor. A girl by his side and he looked up.  The same guy that I looked from a far distance when I was first going to fight. The one that looked directly into my eyes when I was getting into something I didn't know about.... He smirked and stood up.

"Hi Austin. I'm Dave. Dave Brytus."

Amy spoke putting one and one together.... "Dave...the one that Jimmy brought up...the one that... His dad killed." I looked down and played with my fingers already getting upset.

"Yeah... That Dave."

"How are you Sir" I said nervously shaking his hand. He walked out and came to where I was at without having  a table in between us.

"Don't be scared Austin, let's talk and get to know each other. Oh and... Call me Dave.  when people are on my side they call me by my first name... Not 'sir'" I nodded and relaxed a little.

The rest of the time we talked and I told him what went down and why I was there fighting for money. He was the first one that knew the complete story and he understood. He told me I didn't have to worry about not having a place to stay at or having money, because I was now one of them... I was apart of their crew and that we were now family.

I had doubts about what 'family' meant to them but as time passed by it was a family. We didn't just do rebellious things 24/7 ... We would go out together and have a good time.

Dave taught me how to live with what they did. He taught me how to overpower the people that were our enemies. Taught me how to fight, run, hide... All the things you needed for survival. He also taught me how to forget, forget by trying to block it out.

He left the option of me blocking it out... But I turned it into violence. I began to fight every week, most of the time I won.... And I was no longer doing it for the money, but for the pain. I wanted to get rid of the constant pain that was there.

We began doing business with other people that were more dangerous. Runaways, drug dealers, but it didn't matter to me. Dave taught me how to defend myself and I knew that when the time was needed Id be ready.

One day we all met up and talked about the next task. A task that even Dave was going to be in. It was a drug dealer that was big in some states. He was basically the king of drug dealing. We didn't want drugs nor problems... He wanted us to make a delivery and we said yes.

Dave was a guy that wouldn't do dangerous DANGEROUS things... And he didn't like where this was going at. He didn't just want us to deliver packages but also wanted us to bail out a guy that was in jail. Dave tried putting a stop to it. He said he wasn't going to do it.... And the guy that was paying us to do this got mad.

He got so mad that he took out a gun putting it on Daves forehead. The guys and I were panicking deep inside but we took out our weapons and pointed it at his guys. That still didn't stop him. After fifteen minutes of yelling and threatening each other Valdez pulled the trigger and shot at his stomach.

That was the first time I experienced something like that. Someone being shot. I yelled and pulled my trigger the bullet going straight to Valdez's guys head. I ran to Dave and he was groaning in pain.

"DAVE STAY WITH ME STAY WITH ME" I yelled but he was already getting loopy. He shook his head and told me to be quiet.

"It's over for me Austin. Trust me.... I know it...." He was breathing heavily  his face red and sweaty. His hands shaking uncontrollably and spazzing out.  Those moments were his last and I was there to witness them. He held my hand tight and begged me to stay on his last moments.  "you've done good kid. you've done good." he could barely say. "now youre the leader, youre the one whos gonna get these kids out of this and move on. fix things, fix everything." he said quietly. Valdez was gone by this time and so was everyone else except Alex and the boys. I nodded trying to not let him see me cry. That strong knot in my throat hurting more and more each minute. "promise me you'll never ever kill anyone because of this business.. and never ever go against the boys. You're their family and they're yours. Don't trust anyone and just lay low and get out of this. or else you'll end up like me." he said looking down at himself.

"i  promise. love you Dave." I barely choked out and he was gone. Alex  and the boys in the back quiet and still, me over Daves body yelling my lungs out and crying endlessly. He was like a brother, an older brother. The one that taught me how to survive and the one that was there for me when no one else was. Now he was gone, but never was I going to have his death go just like that.
