Chapter Three - The Cover Up

When I woke up, it was a familiar setting. There was the white everywhere, silver instruments, dead and lifeless. Although, the dead and lifeless part would have been much more appealing had I actually been dead or maybe even comatose by now.

Don't get me wrong, I was not suicidal but in those moments of pain I was sure it was my time to go and I was ok with that. I assumed my job here was done. The samples given were more than what they'd had before they found me. If anything, maybe it would have been a load off their minds. I knew this was especially true for Liam Wilcox.

He rolled over in his chair, protective gear still on but I could see he was smiling. I was in a tube now, which I didn't seem to even realize before. It was a plastic tube surrounding me like I was in a little Pandora greenhouse. I had wires going up and down my body and limbs while the beeping of my heart continued to remind me I was, in fact, alive.

"Hey there, Pan-Pan. You scared me!" He was actually glad to see me. I could only confirm this because his eyes were red from the pain of wondering if I would open my eyes.

"I told you not to call me that."

He removed his surgical mask and reached in to one of the protective gloves on my box. He then took my hand with that rubber glove and sat by me.

"How are you feeling, kid?"

It was always so ironic when he would call me kid. For some reason he was the only person that would call me that and it would not irritate me. I shifted in my spot and forced the best smile I could.

My body didn't hurt anymore but I felt stiff. It was like the way your body feels after an intense workout where your muscles and limbs are just jello. The world was also staying steady for me and no longer spinning or blurry. I had hoped this was a good sign.

"Ready for a night on the town, captain. Can you fill me in on what happened?"

He went to speak but at that moment, three P. P. A. Soldiers walked in. This uniform was different than the swat uniform the ones who were at my home wore. This was much more official like a naval officer uniform with badges on their chests and no masks on. One of the officers pressed a button on my tube which cut off communication so I could hear nothing.

Liam stood, a little offended they had now entered a clean zone without the proper attire but also because they were now rudely interrupting standard procedure. He stood up and began to sort of wave his hands around upset. The second two men stood behind the first with their arms crossed behind their backs, eyes straight forward like they were robots. The first man with far more badges and an angry look spread across his face was stating something to Liam that he didn't exactly like.

I was upset they had muted me out from the conversation. I never liked to play the VIP card but this project was founded around me and my odd condition and not cluing me into what was going on was like spitting in my face. It was like treating me like I was a lab rat and not a valued member of this team.
