The Final - Liam
It was probably the most scared I had ever been in my life. I knew for a fact that Pandora was frightened. I guess you could say that what I’d admired about her the most was the fact that even if she was scared out of her mind she would charge through a room full of lasers just to free a group of aliens whose kind had tried to dissect her.
The battle was pretty ugly. I did my best to help but there was very little I could do. I watched as she fought them. She was winning before Ethan came. He knew her weaknesses having been so close to her. In a flash, I was out of there. It was hard to tell what happened but I was sure she was as good as dead.
Finding the team was hard with no point of reference for them. They were in maximum hiding by then. Pandora’s mother had already had her baby. Maybe that was why she had to go. It would have been funny thinking about her and her counterpart living in the same world with the same problems.
I spent the first few months in southern Mexico hiding from the U.S. Government. It had seemed, with all their connections, the P. P. A. Project had managed to make all involved with saving Pandora the most wanted terrorists in the world. It didn’t take long for a crime organization to pick me up and use me as a black-market doctor for gunshot wounds and pregnancies which could not be made public.
Half a year passed before I finally got word from Casey. He’d sent a telegram, very old school, informing me to get ready. They would be taking me at night so no one could see them. I prepped what few belongings I’d had and waited. When they came for me the world’s biggest wave of relief spread over me. Along with it came the astonishing fear of telling the crew, and Pandora’s parents, that she was dead.
We weren’t allowed to talk on our flight back to the base which was now located in central Antarctica. High tech machinery designed to recognize voice from hundreds of miles away were lined around the coast of nearly every country. Once arrived, I was quickly taken down to the new setup the guys had created, still a bit of work to be done and we then went on lockdown.
The twins placed me in a chair in an interrogation room. They’d both had a substantial amount of facial hair across their jaws whereas Casey was a wreck, pale and long shaggy hair. Marx was nowhere to be seen, chief was a statue as usual and Connor was all muscles tight. He was worried, like the rest. I assumed her parents were not involved in this initial meeting considering the details might have been too hard to hear.
When we were fully sealed, I let out a deep sigh and chugged a glass of water they’d placed out for me. It was freezing in the base but it was a relief from the hot and humid day’s I’d become accustomed to in god-knows-where, Mexico. Chief had to hold his hand to indicate he would be the first to speak.
