"So how's Tuesday night at 8?" Jasper asked through the phone.
"8 is fine, I'll meet you there. What movie will we watch?" replied Aliss.
"Not sure, I guess we'll figure it out when we get there."
"Alright I can't wait baby."
"Yeah..me too."
"I'm gonna go finish my Biology project, I'll see you tomorrow at school."
"Okay, get it done! Love you!"
"Love you too...."
Jasper didn't like saying it, but..it wasn't entirely a lie. Aliss was beautiful, smart, wild, and knows how to party. Even has a tattoo. A little all black tribal heart on her right wrist.
She was almost perfect. Almost. Her only flaw was that she wasn't April.
April was prettier, smarter, maybe not as wild, and no tattoos. But April makes him happy, her smile brightens his world, her eyes are like the light in the darkness. Little blue crystal balls of light. How he longed to be with her...but she wasn't on the market. Aliss was.
***************
He remembered when he asked her out two weeks prior to today. They were at lunch and she had left to use the bathroom. He walked out after her and called for her attention.
"Hey Aliss." He yelled.
She spun around, "yeah?"
"I wanna ask you something.."
"What?"
"Do you wanna like...get together sometime?"
"Is this asking me out, or asking to hook up, because if your asking me out don't be a pussy" she laughed. "I like you Jasp."
" I uh, like you too"
"So when are we getting together?"
*************
Of course that was two weeks ago, they had only made out a little after school in Jasper's car. But Tuesday...was real. He had to make an impression. Dress nicely. And not allow her to pay for anything. If only this was April he was taking out. But that would never be.
Half year classes end today and switch to our other half year classes. No more Musical Theory for Jasper, now it was Global Issues.
"What an exciting name...not." Jasper thought.
As he hopped out of his car and walked though the student parking lot, he caught a glimpse of Xander and a blonde walking towards the Main Entrance of the school.
"Xander! What's up?" Jasper yelled.
Xander spun around with a giant smirk on his face.
"The sky dumbass." He replied as Jasper caught up, "What do you want?"
"Just saying hi to my bro," Jasper motioned his head towards the blonde girl, "I see you found a new best friend...you trying to replace me?"
The girl laughs and hugs on to Xander, while he puts an arm around her waist.
"Nah, this is my girlfriend Hannah, and besides how the hell am I supposed to replace you?"
"You can't. But I'm glad to actually see you with a girl in hand not a beer."
Hannah laughs again, pokes himself the stomach.
"Nope he'd rather have both in hand. But I'm gonna make him quit, aren't I babe?" Hannah says.
Xander half smiles, "Yeah....I'm going to try.", he winks at Jasper.
Jasper shakes his head, "I'll see you lovebirds later I'm gonna go find Aliss before First Period."
Without waiting for a response, Jasper walks inside past the office and goes into the Cafeteria. Where he finds Aliss gossiping with her friends. She immediately jumps up and runs over to Jasper, with a huge bright smile.
"I missed you baby.", she said as she hugged Jasper tightly.
"It was just two days, you act like I was kidnapped and went missing or something." Jasper looked down at the face of Aliss. She was wearing the same shirt from the party where they first met. A white Of Mice & Men t shirt. She looked beautiful. Jasper couldn't deny the fact that he did like Aliss.
"It felt like forever!" She wined.
"You excited for tomorrow?"
"Yes, I'm excited! But I still don't know what movie we are going to watch."
"Perhaps that one movie about the girl with cancer who falls in love with the football quarterback?"
"A chic flic? Nah, I wanna watch the movie with Jason Statham in it?"
"An action film?"
"Yeah you should really get to know me better. I don't like romantic movies."
"You like gunshots, explosions and shit?"
"Yeah I'm a tomboy I guess, except I like girly clothes."
"Perfect combination." And with that they sat down and ate breakfast.
*********************
"It sucks we don't have school tomorrow.." April whispers over to Jasper. They had to be quiet because Mr. Portney had yelled at them for being "too loud and obnoxious", even though they had only walked through the door.
"Yeah, and it also sucks that Mr. Portney is on his teacher period." Jasper replied.
"AP Biology sucks in general."
"Eh it's okay for me, I get to see you and that's always fun."
"Seeing me can't be all that great."
"It really is to be honest."
"How come?" April seemed surprised to the fact that Jasper liked being around her.
"I don't know it's just that when I'm around you I feel happy."
"I find that hard to believe."
"And why's that?"
Mr. Portney walked passed Jasper and April's station, going around to see if anyone needed help. April pretended to be writing on her Lab Worksheet, as Jasper messed around with the dead frog on the silver tray that they had to gut and examine.
After Mr. Portney walked off, Jasper raised an eyebrow at April.
"Why?" He asked.
"I just don't feel like I make anyone happy." April responded sadly.
"You make me happy, I wouldn't come to this stupid class if you weren't here. Besides I'm sure you make Drake happy," April puts her head down on the table, making Jasper question his own statement, "Right?"
She kept her down, she sniffled. Then the sobs began.
"No... he always says that I'm always bothering him. That I won't ever leave him alone. That I'm up his ass constantly."
"That's bullshit April. How are you up his ass? You only see him like..what...twice a month?"
"Yeah, because he's always busy, if it's not Soccer it's parties. If it's not parties he's sleeping and recovering from a hangover."
"April... I don't know how to tell you this but...", April raised her head, revealing a sad, yet beautiful face, with black streaks of mascara going down her face, "He's an asshole. You deserve better than him. A lot better."
"What do you mean?" She seemed a confused, or slightly angry.
"You shouldn't be with him. He's not good for you."
"What do you mean he's not good for me?", she stood up from her chair, looking down at Jasper. "Who the hell are you to have a say about my relationship?"
"April..I didn't mean to offend you, I-"
"No, fuck you."
She walked away from him, passed Mr. Portney, and at the door.
"Ms. Clark, where do you think you're going?" Mr. Portney inquired.
"Leaving." And without hesitation. She left.
Jasper sat at his station, looking at the dead frog. Wishing he could switch places with the frog. He had failed. He ruined not only his chances to ever be with April, but also there friendship.
