I woke up and I was staring out of a window, bright sunlight washing over everything, the picture scanned the room and I saw myself facing Edward. My hair was in a mess and I looked like I hadn't slept peacefully at all.
"Good morning." Edward greeted me and I wished more than anything that I could see his face to know if he was okay or just faking it. It kills me sometimes to not even know what he looks like.
"Morning, how did you sleep?" I asked him throwing my legs over the side of the guest bed.
"Well." He answered curtly and I knew that was the end of that conversation.
"Good morning niece and nephew! Esme's made breakfast for you two downstairs!" Alice threw open the door with a wild and enthusiastic smile.
"Thank you." Edward nodded and got up. Out of his peripheral vision I saw the chair he had sat in all night no doubt. There was a deep blue fuzzy blanket that had been draped around him. I knew that blanket...
"Is that your blanket? How did it get here?" I asked him.
"I ran home and got it along with some other things we needed. Your change of clothes are right here." He put my hand on the top of the pile of clothes and turned away to get dressed himself.
"When?" I asked.
"Last night, well really early this morning." He answered. I got my cardigan turned upside down and was struggling. He flipped it the right way and helped me slide my arms into the soft sleeves.
"Did I do good?" He put me in front of a full body mirror. I was wearing black skinny jeans, a burgundy tee, my special black cardigan, and he got my red converse and helped me tie them up.
I also noticed his appearance. He looked awful, his eye was black and looked like it was fresh, he had scratches running down his neck, and I could tell his lip had been busted from the still irritated wound.
"Yeah, you did good." I gripped his shoulder trying to comfort him and he winced "Sorry! Edward are you hurt?" I asked worried I had hurt him more.
"Just a little crick." He sighed and wrapped his arm around mine as he walked me down the stairs. Stairs and showers will always be tricky.
My brother is so sweet...or stupid. I still haven't really decided.
We got into the kitchen and were met with our families bright smiles.
"Hello everyone!" I smiled in return.
"Good morning kids! Hope you like eggs." Esme smiled placing two plates on the kitchen island. Edward pulled my chair back, stealing it for me, and I had a little trouble getting up on the high chair. Esme smiled at me sweetly and I smiled back and laughed it off. Edward turned his chair sideways so he could watch me and eat at the same time like he always does. He hardly touched his food though.
"Good morning you two. How did you sleep Renesmee?" Our father was suddenly leaning on the counter beside me.
"I slept fine thank you." I smiled at him and he smiled back widely.
What's wrong with him? I gestured to my brother.
He got into an argument with your mother last night when he went to collect some of your things. She was trying to kill herself and he fought her until he could get her under control. I saw it through his thoughts and told the others when he went back upstairs to you. Be careful with him he's hurt pretty badly still. He has a concussion and heavy body injury. Carlisle is really worried. Try to get him to lie down?
I subtly nodded. He seemed really sad from his thoughts. Of course he is. The woman he loves tried to kill herself and his son had to fight his own mother to keep her controlled. Now his own son is seriously injured and pushing himself to help me.
I'll try but with Masen there's no promises. Is mother going to be okay?
Yes, the fire didn't burn her too badly. He got her to lie down and Jasper is looking after her from a safe distance.
I nodded and Esme took mine and Edwards plates to the sink.
"Thank you." My brother and I said in unison and everyone laughed.
"You know what you need brother?" I asked him in a playful tone hoping this trick would work.
"What exactly is it that you think I need sister?" He copied my playful tone and I smiled to myself.
"You seem like you need a good hot shower to relax. Your way to tense I feel the anger coming off of you in waves." I shot at him.
"What? Really? Look who's hair is in a complete state of disaster!" He shot back.
"I can say the same about you." I shot back.
"My hair is always a mess! Look at who I get it from!" He pointed to our father and he started laughing and nodded his head.
"See what I mean about you being tense? I'm only trying to help. God forbid I try to be a good sister." I started my fake tears and I could tell he was starting to panic.
"Fine fine. I'll go if that will make you feel better." He hugged me tightly and headed up the stairs to the bathroom attached to our guest room. I went blind and put my finger to my lips until I heard his shower turn on and knew he couldn't hear us.
"And that is how you trick a Swan." I smiled.
"I'm sure those tears could trick anyone." My father poked my nose and it made me giggle after the brief surprise passed.
"So how exactly is getting him a shower going to lead to him getting bed rest for that nasty concussion?" Carlisle asked and someone turned my chair around.
"Edward always gets tired when he takes hot showers. It's what he does when he needs to sleep badly. Once he gets out of that shower I'm sure he'll hardly even make it to the bed. It will be such a deep sleep you could do anything medically to him without him even stirring." I smiled proudly.
"You really are a Cullen." I could hear the smile in Rosalie's voice.
