Normal POV

College is a big point in someone's life. I mean, it basically determines what your life will end up being. It's really important that you choose the right school and the right environment. Don't let your parents choose, it's your own choice.

I made that mistake. My parents enrolled me at NYU, not the school of my dreams. They were all 'it's the best school for musical theatre and we'll only pay for the best.' I lasted a year until I finally told them I was changing schools after a few traumatic events and I was doing it with or without their help. There was this huge blow up in which I left and they just agreed to pay my tuition, nothing more. I was technically already a legal adult so I could do what I wanted. For the summer, I stayed with friends in their apartments until I finally flew out for the start of the semester.

Now it's the beginning of the year, the start of my sophomore year at my new school: The University of Michigan. I sat in the main building awaiting the finalization of my schedule.

"Here you go, dearie." The secretary handed me a packet of papers. She seemed way too peppy for the day. "Most people have already moved into their dorms, so don't be surprised if your roommate is already there. I'm sure she'll be happy to help you out."

I nod. "Thank you, ma'am." I turn and head out into the crisp Michigan wind, wrapping my sweater a little closer to my body. I struggle to hold my backpack, purse, shoulder bag and my suitcase along with the paperwork. It was going pretty well until I tried to read where my dorm was while walking. With my head down, I walked smack into someone and my stuff went everywhere.

It was two people actually. One was a guy with blackish hair and pale skin while the other one was taller with dark hair and a crooked jaw. "I'm sorry. I should have been paying more attention." I quickly bend over and start gathering my papers and bags.

"No, it's our fault. We weren't paying attention." The taller one grabbed my suitcase and the other one grabbed my backpack and papers. "Say... I haven't seen you here before. I'm Joey Richter."

"I'm Brian Rosenthal."

"Charlotte Watson."

"So Charlotte where are you headed?"

"That's the thing. I don't exactly know."

Brian chuckles and consults my papers in his hands. He does a one eighty and heads toward the other side of campus. "Right this way."

"Thanks."

We turn and start at a steady pace. Joey rips the papers out of Brian's hands. "So Charlie, it seems you're in our year. SOPHOMORES UNITE!" He screamed that last part pumping the papers in the air. He got a few whoops from other sophomores scattered nearby.

I scowl at the nickname. "I suppose I am."

"So what's your major?"

Joey starts scanning my page for the answer so I beat him to it. "Musical theatre."

The boys smile and put their arms around my shoulders. "It looks like you're stuck with us," Brian says in a sing-songy tone.

"Guess what, Bri?" Joey grins. "She's rooming with Devin!"

Brian starts grinning too and I feel like I'm surrounded by Cheshire cat clones. "I don't mean to be rude, but who are you talking about?"

The boys turn their creepy grins towards me. "She's your new roommate."

"I got that much, Brian."

"She's Brian's 'best friend' if you know what I mean." Joey winks at me while he makes air quotes. Brian blushes and starts swatting at Joey. "Woah there are ladies present dude."
