I DONT OWN TEAM STARKID OR THEIR WORKS
We burst into the theatre hall and found the holding rooms for all of us. Dev and I enter the girls' one which was filled with our screaming friends. Some people (i.e. Jaime) had misplaced some items and were frantically searching and requesting help. Others were just excited for opening night and slightly sleep deprived which made them even crazier. Laughing, I immediately set about my work. I set my bag down in a corner and took my extra costume pieces to set them where they belong.
Backstage, I ran into Joey who was doing the same as I. "I'm so proud of you, Jo," I whisper to him. In the dark light, I see his brilliant smile as he moves closer to me.
"I'm even prouder of you." We wrap our arms around each other, nearly getting tangled, and press our lips together, stealing a kiss. Just knowing I had Joey to be there and come back to was enough to settle my nervous butterflies. Our characters' plot lines scared me initially since it was the second musical in which our friends loved to spite our relationship. It's just about figuring out the separation. But Joey is Joey, not Ron or fictional Joey Richter.
"Charlotte?" Brian Holden walked in on us. Joey and I pulled apart, laughing quietly to ourselves.
"I'm here." I see Brian move closer to us.
"Oh, hey Joey." He high fives my boyfriend as he continues to talk to me. "So can you help me with my face?"
Joey and I laugh. "It'll be hard but I can try my best." I hug Joey tightly as I follow Brian off stage and into the back hallway. We plopped on the floor of the hallway and Brian bestowed his bag of makeup upon me.
I got to work making him beautiful as he jabbed at me, causing both of us to laugh hysterically. When I finished, Brian looked absolutely ridiculous. The winged eyeliner was simply a line out to the side of his face, appearing that he did it himself. Essentially, I just did all the makeup don'ts. It also looked even more bizarre to an extent because he wasn't in costume and he dressed like a typical guy.
"Wow, Bri. You look like the world's most fab pussy." He chuckles and gives me the finger. I turn and re-enter the bustling dressing room. The girls led by Dev and Lily Marks, were hosting a dance party. Arielle was blasting music at nearly top volume and everyone led by the two girls were dancing around like idiots..
Squeezing into my corner, I tugged on my blouse and shorts. After cramming my feet into the simple black heels, I made sure that I stashed a lip gloss and my phone in my purse. I fussed around with my hair and resigned myself to drinking Gatorade as I wandered around the basement floor.
My shoes clicked on the tile floor and I nearly spilled my drink down my shirt. I stroll into what I thought was an empty classroom, but Darren, Joey and Joe were there running through some music. They stop when they notice me.
"Hey Bird Girl!" "Hey!" "Charlie!" They guys get up and hug me. Joe Walker looked absolutely ridiculous. His tan pants had balloons inside the legs so he appeared to be a certain piece of genitalia. He also wore a tan denim jacket which I believed was the worst part of his ensemble.
Darren just looked like an Italian businessman while Joey simply looked like himself but with a ridiculous headband.
"Y'all ready for tonight?" I asked smiling. They chorused variations affirming they were ready.
Soon, even more people joined us in the rehearsal room. Moses came in just blabbering about nothing, followed by the two vaginas: NJSM and Holden. Their costumes caused me to keel over with laughter. The rest of the guys and all the girls appeared, laughing and fooling around.
