More classes. Blah blah blah. I mean it's amazing to study theatre and history but my friends were definitely the best part. I spent nearly every moment, waking and sleeping, with them. I almost forgot about my family issues until it got to the week of Thanksgiving.

"So are you going to go to New York for the holiday?" Devin asked tentatively, sitting beside me on my bed.

I shake my head. "It's not even worth it for me. I don't have the money to waste and besides this is my home."

Devin hugs me. "It's just I feel bad I can't take you to Atlanta with me. The girls won't be here either. Well, I mean Mer and Lo will be in the same state but you know what I mean."

I shrug. "I think Joey's parents aren't going to be home so he's staying. I won't be alone, Dev. Plus we have these." I pick up my phone and wave it in her face as she pulls away.

She sighs. "I know. I just don't want to be away from you, knowing that you're alone."

"I have Joey."

"Well then no funny business."

"There no business in which to be funny!" Devin laughed so I felt better, knowing she's okay about me being okay.

"I haven't heard it put that way before but I guess you're right."

"I know I am." Devin laughs again. "I don't really feel sad even that I'm not leaving. I love it here; I mean it's freezing but..."

"I understand, Char."

The next day, I help Dev load her simple two bags into her car and watch as she drives off to the airport, heading to Georgia for the next few days. Knowing everyone else I know left, I whip out my phone and message Joey to meet me in the dining hall.

I change into black leggings with a Michigan fleece pullover. I yank on black boots, a black beanie, and a black puffer vest and rush down to where I told him to meet me, my bag in hand. He's not there so I collapse into the chair closest to me. I take one of my history books out of my bag and read until I hear someone clear their throat. I look up.

"Hey." Joey was looking down at me. His dark hair was spiked out at odd angles underneath his Michigan cap. He was wearing a simple blue winter jacket with jeans and I could have sworn he was wearing a Blink 182 shirt.

"You ready to go into town for a bit?" I ask.

"Sure," he says excitedly. "I know a great place to get lunch!"

"Okay." Joey leads me out to his car. We drive the ten or so minutes to town with Blink 182 blaring out of the speakers. Joey's singing along to every single lyric while I laugh softly.

"Blink 182 is obviously your favorite band," I point out.

Joey stops singing. "Of course!" He looks incredulous. "Yours is..."

"How are you supposed to know when I don't even know?" I laugh as we park in front of a small restaurant on the main road and walk in. "It has to be Green Day, Blink 182, or Third Eye Blind."

He nods and asks the host for a table for two. We're quickly seated and continue our conversation as we look over the menu.

"It's weird," Joey muses.

"What?"

"I know some of the worst parts of your life but I don't know the best or any of the sweet little things." He looks slightly sad, but then the waiter comes around and we quickly order.
