Chapter 11

It was a short kiss but meaningful all the same. His lips were warm and it felt like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders. When that special moment was over, Matt called cut and we all filed out of the theatre. When I went to get my stuff, I saw Joey go over to talk to Matt, but I was automatically smothered by the girls.

"He kissed you!" Dev came flying at me with a hug.

"Did that just happen?" Jaime wasn't sure what she just saw.

"Choey!" Lauren screeched.

"Guys we were doing a scene. It was acting." Even as I said that I wasn't so sure.

"I bet when he asked Matt if he could call cut after the kiss," Lauren shouted.

"Yeah! I saw him get up and talk to him earlier!" Devin added.

"We need to tell Julia and Meredith!" Lauren continued to scream. She whips out her cell phone quickly messages Julia and Meredith. I shake my head.

"Guys we were acting!" I don't think they heard me as Joey was walking over, and the girls started giggling and screeching like middle schoolers.

"Hey," Joey said attempting to run his hand through his hair even though he was wearing a hat. He does that a lot especially when he's nervous."Charlie, can I talk to you?"

"Sure." I flick my hands so the girls would know to get the hell out of here. They get the message.

We're walking alone towards the parking lot. "Do you want to head to the coffee shop? We still have time before our rehearsal."

"Of course." We hop in his car and start driving into the little town.

"You were great at auditions, Charlie. You rocked that song. I almost thought you didn't have it in you." He laughed lightly.

"Thanks. You were amazing. I have no words." I think I'm blushing.

"Shucks Charlie." Joey's chuckling a little bit. Then we park.

We hop out of the car and start walking to café. "Charlie, I'm sorry about earlier." The ashamed, guilty, look gave me no doubt about what he was talking about.

We've stopped but the few people here are moving around us but they don't matter. We're standing close, our eyes locked intently. "It's fine. We were doing a scene we were acti-"

I was cut off when Joey put his hands on either side of my face and kissed me. I felt fireworks. Goddamn Fourth of July fireworks. I kissed back and when we finally stopped, everything was clearer. I saw Joey's blue jacket, his serious expression, his adorable hair smushed under his hat. I loved him.

He stares into my eyes. "That wasn't acting."

"Good." I grab his hand and we walk together to the shop.

By now, the woman behind the counter knows what we want so we paid and took a seat. As I'm sipping my coffee, I see Joey staring at something around my neck. I realize that it's the necklace he gave me. I laugh and that startles him. "What?"

"We finally kissed!" Now Joey laughs.

"Yes we did, Charlie."

"I liked it."

"Me too." With his drink in one hand, he reaches his other hand out to me and I notice that he has his bracelet on. I place my hand in his, setting my coffee down.

"I feel relieved now that that's out of the way," I say, brushing a stray hair out of my face.

Joey nods. "But there's this one thing."
